Top Ten Refrigerators in India by electricity consumption and size

By on June 12, 2014

Top Refrigerator There are multiple types and brands of refrigerators or fridges available in the market today. Everyone wishes to be informed before making a buying decision of a refrigerator. Most sources on the Internet provide details on features and reviews. Electricity consumption hardly becomes the deciding factor. To help people make electricity consumption as deciding factor, we at Bijli Bachao have decided to put up a list of Top Ten refrigerators in India by electricity consumption and size.

  • The basis of this ranking is the data from BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency). BEE data contains yearly electricity consumption of a refrigerator and this information is self reported by the manufacturers. The data is calculated in test conditions.
  • We have taken the data on electricity consumption and categorised it by the capacity or volume of the refrigerator. The refrigerator with the least value of units/lts is given the highest ranking. Multiple models with the same value are given the same rank.
  • The list below contains only the top ten ranked refrigerators. List of all BEE star rated refrigerators are available on the useful links given below.
  • Use the ‘Add to compare’ icon to compare the monetary value of the units available from BEE based on your tariff from your electricity provider and your usage.
  • Please note Direct Cool refrigerators are single door refrigerators and Frost Free refrigerators are multi door refrigerators.
  • We regularly update this list as new models get added in the BEE list of refrigerators.

  1. Ashish Nahar says:

    HI Sir,

I went to purchase LG fridge model GL-D322RPJZ (5 star rating with 198 unit of consumption per year)however it is unavailable, instead I was offered to buy GL-D322RPJL (4 start rating with 247 units of consumption per year). Shop keeper said that 5 star rating fridge will cost you 3k more than this one and the units saved may not cover up the extra cost you pay for the 5 star rated model. What do you suggest, Sir?

  2. vikrant says:

hi mr abhishek, i am confused between LG GL-M472GPHM(BW) and panasonic 450 litres with bottom freezer…..technology and performance wise which is better…..the salesman told me that cooling is better with panasonic, is that so….what about the service….

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Vkrant,

If the bottom freezer model that you are looking at has inverter technology compressor then I would suggest you to go for Panasonic. The LG model also has that. But bottom freezer technology in general is more efficient. Also inverter technology compressor gives more consistent cooling.

FP 343 D royal 330Ltr vs GL-M393YSJX 377 ltr which is better. Is three door 300-350Ltr better than 400Ltr double door

      Heyy
I too hav th same doubt
Cud u pls suggest me based on the replies that u hav got ?
U cud ping me on fb(kushal sachdev)

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Harish,

Between the two models you have mentioned I would say that Whirlpool model may turn out slightly better because of the sixth sense technology. However in general the best technology available in refrigerators these days is Inverter Technology compressor. Which is mostly available in double door and side-by-side refrigerators. Double door refrigerators are rated on BEE star rating, but others are not, so there is no energy consumption data available for other type of refrigerators.

  4. fareed says:

    Hi abhishek
Pls let me know which is better in 300-330ltr capacity i have short listed samsung Rt33hdrzasp or lg gl D322rpjl which is good in both electricity consumption n efficientin performance

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Fareed,

Both models have digital inverter compressor so from efficient performance perspective both are good. However LG GL-D322RPJL is BEE 4 star rated model where as the Samsung model is BEE 3 star. So LG model is more energy efficient. I would suggest to go for the LG model in this case.

      Hi Vineet,

GODREJ “RH EDGE DIGI 190 PDS 5.1″ or “RD EP 190PD” or “RD EP 190PDS” are the most efficient refrigerators in 190 lts range.

I am looking for a frydge in 190 to 230 lts range and in Samsung vs. Godrej.
Can you suggest which one is better make. Also I have seen the godrej SX and Edge pro versions which is good

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Godrej Edge Pro versions are the most energy efficient models in this segment. So they will save good amount of electricity. Brand wise both are known brands and your choice will truly depend on which brand provides better service in your area.

  11. Himja says:

Hello. I’m looking at buying a fridge about 450 litres. My current one is whirlpool. Do you recommend the Bosch or bottom freezer Panasonic. Any other suggestions. My height restriction is 69″. Thanks.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Himja,

Bottom freezer refrigerators are not rated on BEE rating, so we do not have much data to make a comparison. However only thing that I can suggest is: do look for inverter technology compressor in the refrigerator. It will not only save electricity, but will also keep food fresh for a longer duration. If you are looking for double door models then you can look at these:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year) Star Rating Market Price

    Samsung RS554NRUA,
    LG GC-B207QPQV,
    LG-B207GLQV
    in electronic store.

Out of LG and Samsung, i liked the inside body of Samsung as regards longer durability. Is it good to buy Samsung over LG or LG is still better. Which one is better models out of these.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Amongst the 5 these are good:

      Samsung RS554NRUA1J
      LG GC-B207GPQV
      LG GC-B207GLQV

The LG model has digital linear inverter compressor which should technically be more efficient than regular digital inverter models. But the numbers are not available to compare. Both the brands are good and popular. If you like Samsung then you should go for the model that I have listed.

we are looking to buy a 2 door fridge with a capacity of about 200 litres in East Delhi. could you recommend some options for athe same keeping iun mind the bee ratings, price, after sales service and life of the fridge

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Vivek,

200 lts is a little small for a 2 door fridge. Although there are a few models of that size, but most good one start at around 230-250 lts. What is your budget like?

  16. Shanu says:

HI. I had a doubt. Does the Whirlpool 205 5s 2012 model, come with a Stabilizer free option?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Shanu,

If this is the models that you are talking about: http://www.whirlpoolindia.com/product-detail.php?type=1&prodid=467 if you see it’s technical specification, it mentions working voltage range of 130-300 V. So if your area has voltage around this range, then it is stabilizer free.

I am confused about which brand to choose among whirlpool , lg and Samsung for multi door refrigerators with capacity 250-300 litres . I am looking for energy efficient product. all the above mentioned 3 companies are providing with almost equal bee star ratings , price and units consumed per year . Please guide me.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

I would suggest to go for LG or Samsung model with inverter technology compressor (BEE 5 or 4 star rated models).

  18. yup says:

Talking about 350L or 400L refrigerators, which is a reliable brand Whirlpool or Bosch?
So far I’ve found only these two guys selling sober models other look dowdy & toy type.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

What kind of refrigerator are you looking for? Double door, side by side, or bottom freezer?

    • Yup says:

Sorry i skipped the part. This is for a two door requirement. Bosch doesnt provides any twin / french doors in India and there is only one with bottom freezer.

    • KUMAR says:

300 IN THAT BUDGET??? I WOULD SUGGEST OLX / QUIKR / GREENDUST

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi,

You would get BEE 3 star rated refrigerators in that price range. However you would surely get some Samsung models with inverter technology compressor in that budget. You may look at these:

      WHIRLPOOL NEO IC255 Royal
      SAMSUNG RT27HAJMASE/TL
      SAMSUNG RT27HARZASP/TL

  20. xavier says:

    Hi Abhishek Sir,

Need some clarity between Inverter technology and normal compressor technology? Basically i am comparing LG Vs Whirlpool?

Does inverter technology of LG make a significant difference? if so what is the difference? Does 6th sense technology work well in Whirlpool?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Xavier,

Inverter technology will certainly make significant difference. It is more adaptive as it can alter compressor speed depending on the need. 6th sense still works with on-off of compressor where there are losses in frequent on-off cycle of the compressor. I would say go for inverter technology.

      Hello Neeraj,

It is difficult to get BEE 5 star rated frost free (double door) models of that capacity in 10-20K. Although you can get a single door model in that price range that is BEE 5 star. You can look at these direct cool (single door) models:

    1. can we look for only power consumption label ??it may be 3 star or 4star or 5star right ?
    2. which is best a 5 star rated fridge or digital inverter technology fridge if we consider 10year life of fridge

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi,

In case of refrigerators, you just need to look at 3, 4 or 5 star label on refrigerator. All digital inverter technology refrigerators are rated on BEE star rating. Most 5,4 and 3 star rated refrigerators have digital inverter technology (although there are some non-inverter techs in these labels as well).

      Hi Shweta,

Hitachi and Sharp are great brands if they are able to provide you good service in your area. The common complaint with them is regarding their service. Otherwise they are really good on technology. If you are in a big city then they might have good service. You just need to check it out with local dealers and users of the brand.

We live in Noida and have been using an Electrolux double door 280 lt refrigerator for last 7 years. After initial few years this fridge has been a pot of problems and we end up spending 3-4 k every year on maintenance and gas refilling. Have had to change the compressor twice over the last two years. Now we are buying a new refrigerator, around 300 Lt. Kindly advice.
    1. Single door or double door
    2. Budget around 20 K.
    3. Would prefer LG/Whirlpool.
    4. Fridge mechanics etc have been advising us to go for a single door as maintenance costs are low, gas filling charges are low and also repair etc is not complex. (In noida because of pollution, there is corrosion which leads to regular gas discharge).
    5. Is 325 FUSION PRM 4S(310 Ltr) whirlpool, single door fridge advisable.
    Request a quick response.

      Hello Mr Ramesh,

There are very few single door models in above 250 lts range. However in budget of 20K the most energy efficient models that are in 250-300 lts range are single door models only. You can look at these models:

    Hi Abhishek,

I am planning to buy single door refrigerator in between 220 to 250 ltr. I am confused between LG and Whirlpool. Could you please suggest which one to buy? Some people suggested that Whirlpool has best compressor from Tecumseh, much better then the one which LG is using. Kindly throw some light on this as well and suggest some power efficient refrigerators model as well.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Gaur,

It depends on your experience with the brand. LG have slightly more energy efficient models as compared to Whirlpool. Both brands are popular brands. LG is korean while whirlpool is an american brand. If you look at the BEE 5 star rated models from the two brands, the electricity consumption of LG is slightly better but the difference is not significant enough to give LG an edge over whirlpool. And the BEE numbers are evaluated in test conditions in labs. While the real usage shows that the actual number is about 30-40% more for every brand/model. So if you feel that Whirlpool has better compressor, then you should go for it as the energy consumption difference is not significant enough to override the other benefits. And please note that I compared single door refrigerators between 220-250 lts with BEE 5 star rating.

If they have the technology why are their other 322 series models using up more electricity? I want to buy 302rltl but the 322rpjz efficiency has me confused.

      Hello Sir,

It is difficult to get a double door model in BEE 5 and 4 star rating in 20K. You may get a few good models in Samsung in 20K which are BEE 3 star rated.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Ashrith,

LG GL-P292RPJL is better. It is BEE 4 star and plus it has inverter tech compressor. Godrej model is BEE 3 star. I think you should go for LG GL-P292RPJL as it is one of the best in your price range.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      HI Raghu,

Bottom freezer models are not rated on BEE star rating so there is no data available for objective comparison. However bottom freezer models are theoretically more energy efficient that top freezer models. However energy efficiency depends on multiple factors as compressor/condenser efficiency, etc.

The LG model has a BEE star rating as it is top freezer model. However both are inverter technology refrigerators and panasonic is a good brand as well. So I have slight inclination towards Panasonic model. I think it should work out well.

    Hi abhishek…

I have a family of 5 members n am planning to buy a double door refrigerator around 25 k. Please suggest which refrigerator will be good for my family capacity wise…. efficient electricity consumption and with good looks…. .also suggest if u prefer buying bottom freezer or top freezer according to the above criteria..also, does top or bottom freezer have any impact on life of refrigerators…pls reply.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Farha,

The size of refrigerator truly depends on your lifestyle and usage of refrigerator. If you visit the market frequently then you would need lesser storage and you will also get more fresh food. But if you store food for longer durations, then you may need more capacity. For a family of 4 I personally have a 340 lts refrigerator, and I feel because of that we tend to buy more at any time and tend to store a lot. But it all depends.

As for bottom freezer vs top freezer, ideally a bottom freezer model should be more energy efficient but electricity efficiency depends on multiple things like compressor design and condenser design. So it is not necessary that all bottom freezer models will be efficient in using electricity. Also because they are not rated by BEE, there is no data available to compare the electricity consumption of bottom freezer models. So I would suggest that top freezer model is a safe bet. You can look at these BEE 4 star rated models:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year) Price
      LG GL-D302RPJL 285 242 28900
      LG GL-D292RPJL 258 238 27400
      LG GL-M302RLTL 285 242 26600
      LG GL-M292RLTL 258 238 23500
      WHIRLPOOL NEO IC275 262 253 22222
      LG GL-P292RPJL 258 238 27000
      WHIRLPOOL NEO IC305 292 259 26444

Out of these I guess Whirlpool NEO IC305 would be good bet as it has higher volume and better electricity consumption.

Awaiting for your response and suggestion….. New Delhi.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Narendra,

I think it is a good refrigerator. Godrej has more energy efficient models, however samsung and whirlpool have similar range. So if you have a brand preference over LG then you can look at other brands. Otherwise this one is good.

I am from Chennai. More power cuts there in my place,so please suggest accordingly.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Karnan,

The Samsung model is BEE 3 star rated. You can look at these BEE 4 star rated models:

LG GL-D292RPJL has durachill technology to keep refrigerator cool during power cuts. Snapdeal price of Rs 26401
LG GL-E292RPTL has powercut evercool technology but price is Rs 28830
Samsung RT27HDRZESA/TL does not have any such technology for power cuts, but will easily fit in your budget.
LG GL-P292RPJL has powercut evercool technology but price is Rs 27000

LG GL-M292RATL & GL-M292RLTL are also BEE 4 star rated refrigerators, but they do not have powercut technology. All these have similar electricity consumption of about 240 units a year.

  49. Guru says:

    Whirlpool NEO IC275
    LG GL-M292RLTL

    which one is good

    • Abhishek Jain says:

LG GL-M292RLTL is a BEE 4 star rated refrigerator with inverter technology. It is one of the most energy efficient model in it’s size range. Plus the inverter technology refrigerator can keep the food fresh as it can maintain the temperature well. Along with that it has a voltage range of 100-290V which makes it a stabilizer free operation. So it certainly is a very good refrigerator. Comparable Whirlpool model would be NEO IC275 model which is also a BEE 4 star rated model. Electricity consumption wise the numbers look very close, however I would give LG a thumbs up for the inverter technology compressor. However brand wise both are good.

      Hi Saurabh,

I could not find an efficient refrigerator in your budget, of size about 300 lts and also has feature to keep products good in case of power cuts. However you can look at these models:

LG GL-D322RPJL 310 lts fridge with Durachill technology to keep fridge cool for 10 hrs in power cuts. Snapdeal price Rs 32205
LG GL-D302RPJL 285 lts fridge with Durachill technology to keep fridge cool for 10 hrs in power cuts. Snapdeal price Rs 28928

Whirlpool NEO IC305 Royal 292 lts with Chilling Gel. Snapdeal price Rs 30432

      • Saurabh Agrawal says:

        Hi Abhishek
With all above info i went to buy refrigerator in the market. Everyone in my city recommended me to buy a single door Refrigerator. I belongs to the area where we have lots of power cut. As per them double door not working good in long power cut and there performance degrade heavily in 2-3 years. I even talked some end user having double door refrigerator and as per them also they are not happy with the performance, and recommended to buy single door only.

Though i am not convince but I got confused now , as I heard the same thing from so many.

Can you please help me to compare single door to double door refrigerator technically ?

Just to add, I am looking for refrigerator around 300L capacity. Recommend me some good single door refrigerator also.

        thanks a lot.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Saurabh,

Single door refrigerators do not have automatic defrosting. Which means ice accumulates around the freezer which has to be removed by switching off the AC in regular intervals. A huge amount of ice around freezer can also decrease the energy efficiency of the refrigerators. Frost Free models have automatic defrosting which means ice never accumulates around the freezer. So no need to shut it down for defrosting.

Next difference is that number of single door models decrease starting 250 lts and there are very few 300 lts model in single door. However with double door, the models start around 250 lts and go up to 600-650 lts.

So within 250-300 lts range you will get both single and double door. But beyond 300 you will not get single door and less than 250 you will not get double door.

Because defrosting was manual the electricity consumption of double door refrigerators was better till sometime back (i.e. between 250-300 lts range double door models were less power consuming). But with latest advancement in technology and most of it going in double door models, there are highly energy efficient models in double door (all with inverter tech compressor) even in 250-300 lts range. There are technologies that use energy storing gel available in double door models that can keep refrigerator cool for 9-10 hrs in power cut (LG has powercut evercool technology, durachill technology, others also have something or the other).

I personally have a double door refrigerator from Whirlpool which is working awesome for last 5+ years. But power quality in mumbai is quite good.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Both have almost similar specs as both are BEE 4 star rated, both have similar volume, both are inverter tech, and almost similar electricity consumption. However Samsung model has a water dispenser on the door which is not there in LG model. But LG model has a operating voltage range of 100-290V which makes it completely stabilizer free. If you live in an are with high voltage fluctuations, then LG model is better. Otherwise you can analyze your needs. Both look good.

      Hi Sundeep,

Godrej models RD EP 190PD , RD EP 190PDS , RD EP 190 CW are the most efficient ones in 190 lts range (204 units per year). Amongst LG & Samsung, both are almost equally efficient, with Samsung providing slightly more volume (195 lts) for the same energy consumption of 245 units.

As per my knowledge Samsung & Godrej seems to b good options, but u suggest me the best.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Rohit,

If you are looking for sub 250 lts fridge then single door models are more energy efficient. However single door refrigerators need manual defrosting (removing ice accumulated in the freezer) at regular intervals (by switching off the fridge), whereas double door refrigerators have automatic defrosting. If you are looking for single door models, then I would suggest going for Godrej BEE 5 star rated single door refrigerators (RD EP 240 PDS or RD EP 240 PD). Even if you are looking for double door, you can look at Godrej’s RT EON 240 or 250 series.

      Hi Sushant,

The size should be sufficient. However this model does not appear on BEE’s latest star rating. I guess Samsung did not get it revalidated. 62. Manoj says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I am planning to buy a double door refrigerator. and have several questions before I can decide which one to buy. Budget is not a constraint. But there are few things I am wondering, perhaps you can help:

    1. For a vegeterian family of 5 what is the Net litres size that you would recommend? Its so difficult to get correct information on gross vs net litres and that can make a lot of difference. Given that I am planning for a double door, do you think LG GL-408 will be ideal size? If yes can you confirm if its 390 L gross or net?

    2. Since the elderly members are mostly going to use the fridge – I would guess bottom mounted is more appropriate – do you agree? The reason I think that makes sense is (not for energy rating or inverter technology) that they would need to use the refrigeration section more often (8 out of 10 times) and freezer section occasionally. Hence they will have to bend the knees only occasionally in a bottom-mounted architecture. Do you agree? can you give some comparison points between top mounted and bottom mounted units ? I mean whats the pros and cons of each.

    3. Can you tell whats the typical warranty life provided by different manufactures? and does the warranty include all parts or does the compressor typically have less/more warranty?

    4. Any idea after-sales support / warranty support (if reqd) is good for which companies in metro cities?

    5. I learnt that different fridge use different types of coating on the outside – glossy, matt, ceramic, oil paint etc. Any recommendation on which coating/paint style is ideal and why?

    6. Can you explain what does “Digital inverter technology compressor” mean? where can I get some info on this to understand why is it important and relevant? I definitely do not have load-shedding in my area, if that has any bearing on this.

    7. Energy efficiency is an important criteria but I am paranoid about the people issuing these BEE ratings and their processes and protocols. Not sure how to trust on expertise of some govt agency like this. you know what i mean. and even if the energy rating was performed with utmost honesty and top class maths/logic, how much of a difference does it make between 3 star and 4 star? can you give some guidelines. if I have to choose between 2 fridges, assuming exactly same in make and function and brand etc, buy one is 3 star and one is 4 star, how much would I spend more on the electricity of a 3 star unit over 7 years lifespan of a typical fridge ? any idea ? If I save just 500 rupees in electricity over 7 years, then no point spending 3000 rupees more on price. your guidance will be quite helpful.

i would really appreciate anyone who can provide me some guidance based on knowledge and experience and not simply personal opinions/preferences on above queries.

    Regards
    Manoj

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Manoj,

      Here is my response:

      1) There are no guidelines for sizing as it totally depends on a person’s lifestyle. All I can say is overcapacity leads to excess electricity consumption. And by the way LG GL-408 has gross capacity of 390 lts. It’s net capacity would be around 360-370 lts.

      2) Bottom freezer sounds good for your needs. I do not have detailed analysis of pros and cons, however theoretically bottom freezer should be more energy efficient than top freezer model.

      3) Warranty varies from brand to brand. Normally the longest warranty is for the compressor only (not on other parts). LG and Samsung are giving 10 years warranty on their inverter technology compressor. Others have lesser (about 5 years) warranty. For other parts it is mostly 1 year warranty.

      4) Your local dealers and users would be the best to tell you about after sales support of various brands. Generalizing support at one place to across the country may be difficult.

      5) I have no idea about the coating and paint style.

      6) You can read more about inverter tech on this page: http://www.bijlibachao.com/refrigerators/refrigerators-with-inverter-technology-can-help-save-electricity.html , the benefit of inverter technology is that it keeps temperature consistent which keeps vegetables fresh and it optimizes usage of electricity while doing so. It does not have any relation to load shedding.

      7) To do a little comparison, I have taken a sample of a refrigerator of size 310 lts and taken some sample numbers from BEE data and here is how it looks:

      5 star 4 star 3 star 2 star 1 star
      Yearly Unit Consumption 198 247 320 420 530
      Unit saving   49 73 100 110
      % saving   19.84% 22.81% 23.81% 20.75%
      Yearly saving at price of Rs 5 a unit   245 365 500 550

Now if you can see as compare to a 3 star rated refrigerator a 5 star rated refrigerator would save about Rs 610 (just as per BEE data). Now these numbers are in test conditions, and in real usage the electricity consumption is at least 30% more than what is mentioned on the BEE labels (we have done some measurements to check the same). And BEE cannot estimate actual consumption as everyone uses refrigerator differently and there are lot of factors on which electricity consumption depends. If you stuff the refrigerator too much, it will consume more, if you open it frequently, it will consume more, if there is lot of heat in your kitchen, it will consume more. So it will depend on that. So if we factor a reasonable 30%, the Rs 610 increases to Rs 800 a year (or more), which means payback will happen in 3-4 years. Now you may not believe in BEE, but frankly there is no other means for evaluation and differentiation. But from what I know, the process is quite good if not completely robust and is fairly believable.

P.S: please note that the comparison in table above is not for same brand as some brands have mostly efficient models in 5 and 4 star while some have mostly one and 2 star models. But this is taking the median electricity consumption for a star rating.

      You can look at:

      LG GL-314PNGE4
      LG GL-M322RATL
      LG GL-M322RLTL

These are all 310 lts refrigerators that fit in you selection criterion. Sizes bigger than this are for more than 30K.

  65. Suketu Patel says:

    Dear Abhishek,

Which is better model by all way from following two model ? Please guide me by detail.

    (1) Whirlpool Neo IC 305 Royal Double Door 292 Lt.
    (2) Whirlpool FP 313 D Royal Triple Door 300 Lt.

Is there less electric consumption in triple door refrigerator than double door refrigerator in same size ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Suketu

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Suketu,

Whirlpool in general has quite energy efficient models in Two Door. Neo IC 305 is BEE 4 star rated refrigerator and is one of the best in its class. Although 3 door refrigerators are not rated by BEE but I doubt that there will be much difference in the compressor efficiency in two door and three door models. Both the models you mentioned have Whirlpool’s 6th sense technology which is for optimally maintaining temperature in the refrigerator and can save electricity. As such there is no established theory that three door refrigerators consume more or less compared to two door refrigerators. My guess is that both should be same.

    Hi Abhishek,

I want to buy a refrigerator above 400 ltr capacity, I am very much confused searching which is the best one. Please suggest me top bets in this section with best quality and latest useful features.

My priority brands are as follows
    1) LG
    2) Whrilpool

    My priority refrigerator types
    1) Side by Side
    2) Double Door
    3) Bottom freezer

If anything is better than these ( in brand or refrigerator type) plz add that one also. please give me the suggestion asap as i am in a hurry.

    Thank you

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Rohit,

Side by Side and Bottom Freezer refrigerators are not rated on BEE star rating, so the comparison will be more subjective less objective. However all I can say is look for inverter technology compressor which can give consistent cooling (keeping food fresh for long) and also save on electricity. LG, Samsung and Hitachi are brands that have such models. However double door refrigerators are rated on BEE star rating and so you can look at these models:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year)
      SAMSUNG RT42HDAGESL 415 281
      LG GL-M472GLJM 420 282
      LG GL-M472GSHM 420 282
      LG GL-M542GPHM 495 299
      LG GL-M472GPHM 420 282
      LG GL-M522GSHM 470 290
      SAMSUNG RT42HAUDEGL 415 281

I have Electrolux 440 ltr FF, which is almost 6 years old, but has started giving trouble in cooling for last one year, somehow managed till now, but now I want to buy Dircect cool 310, due to the service availability at every nook and corner, have seen videocon, kelvinator, and whirpool, pls suggest which should be better.

    Thanks in advance.

    KBDubey

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Dubey,

Videocon VCP324 and Kelvinator KCP324 have lesser electricity consumption than Whirlpool 325 FUSION PRM. But all are BEE 4 star rated. However in my view, whirlpool is a slightly more reliable brand.

    Dear Abhishek
Could you please let me know about the new Samsung Inverter refrigerator RT45H5809SL. This one I was told is a new kid on the block about 4 month old.

    Regards
    Nitin

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Nitin,

It’s a BEE 3 star rated refrigerator with inverter technology. Pretty good specs. However you can certainly get BEE 4 star rated models of the same size both from Samsung and LG. What is your primary criterion for filtering the refrigerator?

    • Nitin M says:

      Dear Abhishek
I have many criterias for selection of a refrigerator:
      - Around 400 L or plus. (Family of 5)
      - Need a bigger vegetable & fruit case. We do not store non veg.
      - Good on electricity saving
      - Good brand & after sales service

I was earlier looking at RT55KZRSL (as its Fridger can be converted to normal refrigerator) but saw 2 negative reviews on Samsung site itself.
RT45H5809SL – Same as RT55 but with inverter.

I also saw Panasonic NR-BW465VN but heard that Panasonic Service is not good.

      Kindly advise.

      Regards
      Nitin

      • Abhishek Jain says:

        Hi Nitin,

The convertible freezer feature that you are looking for is only available in RT45H5809SL. So you should go ahead with it.

    Hi Abhishek

We are unable to decide the apt refrigerator for our family. We are a vegetarian family of four.Requirements are

1)Vegetable Basket in middle or top as used mostly by elders.
    2)Large Vegetable Basket
    3)Frost Free
    4)Powercut Evercool technology

We’d like to know if there is any model in LG which has vegetable basket in the middle as Powercut Evercool technology is available with only LG.PLease suggest

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Vaishnavi,

I am not sure which LG model has a larger vegetable basket or basket in the middle. All I can say is that try to see if the compressor is inverter technology. You may have to look at structure of individual models to see if the vegetable basket is big enough for your requirements of not.

  77. Probal says:

    Hi Abhishek,

So it means Whirlpool NEO IC275( any model i suppose) does not have inverter compressor. Only Samsung & LG have this technology. Though My mother liked the whirlpool model more, but I am not sure whether it will be wise to go for back dated technology which whirlpool is having. What you say

    • Abhishek Jain says:

In the size range that you are looking at, yes only Samsung and LG have inverter technology. Otherwise Hitachi, Panasonic and Haier also have inverter technology refrigerators. Well I would recommend inverter tech over regular models for sure.

Hi.abhishek,i am planning to buy siemens 505 ltrs model no KG57NA1501,just wanted to have your advice how is it compared to any other leading brands of the same capacity.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Alok,

It is a bottom freezer model which are not rated on BEE star rating. So there is no energy consumption data available for the model. However I would suggest that if you are interested in bottom freezer model, go for a model that has digital inverter technology compressor. Any inverter tech compressor model would be at least equivalent to BEE 3 star rating. You can look at models from Hitachi, LG, Samsung.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

RT42HDAGESL is BEE 4 star and RT47H5679SL is BEE 3 star. If you can manage with the smaller size then RT42HDAGESL is better.

  85. Shanu says:

Hi Abhishek, Glad to see your remarlable work here !.. I want to know best models acc. to you. Range is around220 to 250 ltr, Cost around 20k and 25k. Digital Inverter Compressor technology and 4-5 BEE ratings are preferred. Your response will be highly appreciated ! ! !

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Shanu,

There is only one refrigerator that I could find fitting your requirement: LG GL-M292RLTL. Firstly there are very few refrigerators with less than 250 lts volume in Frost Free category. Then very few of them have digital inverter compressor. And I found only one that is in your budget as well as with BEE 4/5 star rating. There are a few BEE 3 star Samsung which might fit in your requirement: Samsung (RT27HAJYASA/TL,RT27HARZASP/TL,RT27HAJSALX/TL,RT27HAJSARX/TL,RT27HAJSAPX/TL,RT27HAJSAWX/TL).

    • Shanu says:

@Abhishek The LG model suggested looks good. But Is this a old model or new one?.. Also i can afford more about 200 – 300L. So is there any model with invertor technology and 4-5 Star rating?5 start is obviously best !

      • Abhishek Jain says:

You can look at any of these models. These are all BEE 4 star. Currently there are no models come up in BEE 5 star rating on BEE site. Check these models:

  86. ravneet says:

    Hello Abhishek,
Please guide me on buying lg side by side refrigerator model number
    GC-B207GPQV.
Are double door fridges better than side by side door ?.your advice will be really helpful in deciding the.model.

    Ravneet

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Ravneet,

BEE has not started rating side by side models, so there is not much data available for this model. However because it is a linear inverter compressor model, it should be quite energy saving. Additionally it does not have a ice/cold water dispenser which is good because such features typically cause leakage of cold air resulting in more electricity consumption. There is no theory that says that double door fridge will be better than side-by-side, it all varies from model to model. If you like this model, you can certainly go for it.

  87. swati says:

    Dear abhi
    got the model name its
    GL M393YPJX LG 377LTS.
    Please guide

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Swati,

No data is available for this model as it is not rated by BEE. So cannot comment much on it.

  88. swati says:

    Dear abhishek
want to buy new refrigerator selected lg 3 door 377lts which hass seprate vegetable compartment. But confused on electricity consumption and efficiency of compressor.
    Please help.
    Swati

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Swati,

3 door refrigerators are not yet rated on BEE ratings, so not much data is available for such refrigerators. Although the only thing that I can suggest is to buy a refrigerator with inverter technology compressor to have some assurance of lesser electricity consumption.

  89. Kajal says:

I do not understand your reply on whether Godrej Edge pro is better or a LG model – the Godrej model in the shop lists power consumption 204 while LG is 265? So how is LG better by BEE standards

  90. Anil SharmaAnil says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I want to buy a small size fridge under 180 ltr. Please provide me good model in terms of energy saving , good cooling .
    I searched these products
    1-ELECTROLUX 80LTR ECL093SH
    2-Videocon 80 Ltr VCL093

Please suggest me which one or any other is best buy.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Sharma,

Are you looking at sub 180 ltrs or sub 80 lts? The models you mentioned are 80 lts and thus these are sub 80 lts models (BEE 4 star rated):

      LG GC-051SA 45 lts
      Godrej GDC 110 S 4.1 99 lts (more than 80 lts)

Then the models you have listed are BEE 3 star and in fact some more models from Electrolux and Videocon are BEE 3 star:

      Electrolux ECP093 80 lts
      Haier HRD-073 52 lts
      Videocon VCP093 80 lts
      Electrolux ECP063 47 lts
      Electrolux ECP093 80 lts
      Videocon VCP063 47 lts.

I think the Godrej or LG models mentioned above would be good buy.

  91. Ansuman says:

    Dear All,

I am getting a deal on Videocon VPP60ZPS-FSC (Side-by-Side door) 618 Ltrs refrigerator at Rs. 50,000.00 in Bangalore. I have no problem fitting that huge refrigerator in my apartment. My question is, are Videocon products trustworthy especially when you invest half a lakh rupees in them.

The official product website is : https://videoconworld.com/side-by-side-refrigerators/vpp60zps-fsc

Your review and feedback would help me make the right decision.

    Thanks,
    Ansuman

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Ansuman,

Videocon is certainly not considered as a premium brand. Unless you have had a great experience with the brand or you know someone who is really happy with this product, I would suggest to avoid it, especially when the price is high.

  92. Vish says:

What does FC in Whirlpool naming means? DC is DirectCool, FF is Frost Free, but what does FC stand for?

Thank you for this awesome site, btw! Been a regular visitor for over a year. Found out about Superfan here & been using X1 model since last May.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Vish,

Although I am not sure but I think it is for Fresh Control. Whirlpool has a 6th sense Fresh Control technology that is meant to ensure right temperature/humidity in the refrigerator to keep food fresh. Some refrigerators have this technology some do not. So may be this is how they name the refrigerator as FC.

I am glad that you liked the website and found it useful. Do share your experience with Superfan with us.

      • Vish says:

Could be Fresh Control or could also be Frost Control which features in their Fusion series. Whatever it is, it makes it rather difficult to identify the exact model mentioned in BEE list. Our 13 year old no star, double door Whirlpool is still going nicely, but as we have lesser members in our family now, it’s time to replace it with smaller Single door.

Superfan’s been running flawlessly. My main reason for buying it was ‘No speed change due to supply variations or low voltage’ feature. My old fan used to run very fast even at lowest speed setting, so gently running superfan at 1 was quite a relief!

        • Abhishek Jain says:

While buying whilrpool, do look for 6th sense technology. FC ones are the ones with 6th sense.

Thanks for sharing your Superfan experience.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

So, I did look at the list more closely and it seems like a typo by BEE. Most of whirlpool models are FF or DC. Which stand for Frost Free and Direct Cool. And they have put FC instead of DC, because there is another DC entry in BEE data which is similar. And so I guess it is a typo in BEE data and it is DC. Also with whirlpool they register models as FF 245 or DC 245 which means all the models with 245 and Frost free or 245 with DC have same energy consumption. So if you plan to replace your old refrigerator with new DC one, then if you look at DC 260 5S it means following direct cool models: 260 FUSION ROYAL 5S, 260 ICEMAGIC ROYAL 5S, 260 ICEMAGIC PREMIER 5S. At times one has to decode BEE data :).

          • Vish says:

You might be correct. But all the models with same capacity having same energy consumption seem a bit odd. I mean Fusion Royal has Automatic Frost Control, which I think would need bit more energy than other models which has manual defrost.
Also, on Whirlpool site, most of the model’s specs mention Energy Rating (2013), so maybe I should wait until they update it to 2014!

          • Abhishek Jain says:

Yeah I guess it is better to wait till they update their models.

          • Vish says:

FC is Frost Control, see this list: http://www.newtechnology.co.in/whirlpool-refrigerator-price-list-india/

  93. paul says:

hi … which brand has good after sales service ?? hitachi or lg or samsung

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Paul,

It depends on your location and local dealers will be best to tell about it. LG and Samsung surely will have larger service network (reaching remotest of place in India).

      Hi Reena,

I personally have a whirlpool refrigerator which is working great for last 6 years now. I have a few more appliances from whirlpool and have had good experience with the brand in general. But LG seems to be coming up with highly energy efficient models.

    1)RD Edge Pro Refrigerator 190L-190 PD 5.1
2)LG 190 Ltr GL-205XFDE5(TE) Direct Cool Single Door
    Istay in Mumbai

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Swapnil,

RD Edge Pro is 185 lts fridge that consumes 264 units per year as per BEE data. The LG model is 190 lts fridge that consumes 245 units per year as per BEE data. So LG looks more energy efficient.

  97. rajesh says:

All LG models are inverter compressor models which is good for energy saving and it also maintains consistent temperature which is good for keeping things in the refrigerator fresh. The Powercut Evercool technology maintains the cooling for about 7 hours of power cut (so it is good if your place has regular powercuts). LG models are better but come at a cost. But the BEE 4 star whirlpool model is also good from energy consumption point of view.

  99. Sunil says:

Hi Abhishek – LG has a bottom freezer model GC-F419BLQ but does not provide any energy specification on the website. Would you have any details on the same

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Well BEE has not started rating 3 door models and thus not much data is available of such models unless the manufacturer has provided the same on their website. Would suggest you to go for LG GL-M322RLTL the 2 door model that you liked.

  100. Sunil says:

Thanks for the response Abhishek. Is there any model of bottom freeze refrigerator you would recommend with capacity of 300 to 350 liters and a price range of 35k. I could locate only one model in Panasonic, which is BU353MNX4 but I am terrified of Panasonic service in India ( as per feedback of some friends) and also the energy consumption of this high.

Moreover the compressors in bottom freeze as I understand are imported and have a warranty of 5 years whereas the inverter compressor has a warranty of 10 years.

I checked out Hitachi as per your recommendation. They have 450 liters 3 door refrigerator which is approx. 62k @ homeshop 18. It does not fit my requirement and budget.

If above does not work out I am looking to buy LG M322RLTL, which is 310 liters and 2 door refrigerator.

  101. Rajnish says:

    Hi Abhishek,
I m planning to buy a refrigerator between 240L – 300L, the budget around 20-25 K, could you please suggest the best available option brand wise, what are pros/cons of Godrej ???

    Rajnish

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      You can look at:

      LG GL-M292RLTL
      Whirlpool NEO IC 275

Both these are BEE 4 star rated refrigerators that can fit in your budget. As a brand Godrej is quite good, bust as per latest BEE star ratings (of 2014), their models are at best BEE 3 star rated. And they are also not inverter tech. If you are interested in Godrej, you can look at:

Godrej RT Eon 260 PS 5.2
Godrej RT EON 240 PS 5
Godrej RT EON 250 PS 5.2

Lower electricity consumption and easy maintenance are the criteria. Please suggest. I have in my mind Whirlpool, LG & Samsung. I am not able to decide which is best. I will prefer min 4 to 5 star rating.

  105. Sunil says:

Hi Abhishek -How is the pansonic 342 liters bottom refrigerator model. Though the electricity consumption is high the ease of operation is also something I am looking at. How is the service and qulaity of Panasonic in India and why is the energy consumption high, in spite of being a bottom freezer refrigerator

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Sunil,

Panasonic is a good brand. In fact most Japanese brands are good on technology/reliability. However the electricity consumption depends on multiple factors and compressor efficiency is one of them. So even in case it is a bottom freezer refrigerator, if the efficiency of compressor is not good, it would consume more electricity. For electricity consumption I would suggest to go for a model with Inverter Tech model. Hitachi has some models that have inverter tech as well as bottom freezer.

    Thanks,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Inverter Compressor and Smart Inverter Compressor both are similar. It is better to go for model with BEE 5 star rating.

    Lg GR – B 772GSPh

    Suggestions would be greatly valued..
    Thanks in anticipation
    Neha

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Amongst the 3 Lg GR – B 772GSPh looks the best. Sharp is a good brand. Japanese brands are good on reliability and technology in general. Lg GR – B 772GSPh is a BEE 3 star rated model and is also an inverter tech refrigerator. The other two are BEE 2 star rated models.

    • Pankaj says:

  109. manish says:

What abt the models I have mentioned especially the 3 door whirlpool

    • Abhishek Jain says:

BEE has not yet rated 3 door models and thus not much data is available to comment on it. Samsung RT27HDRZESA shows up on the BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency in India) list as a BEE 4 star rated model, but no information is available about the model on the internet.

  110. Manish says:

Hi abhishek, I am planning to buy a refrigerator, which would be a value for money buy in the 230L to 270L category. which model will consume the least electricity as per BEE ratings and I searched a few models but dont have entire spec & details about them. what are their unit consumption and which will offer the largest space
Whirlpool- FP263D ROYAL (3 DOOR FRIDGE)
    SAMSUNG- RT27HDRZESA

    My budget is around 25k-26k

You should look at these models:

      LG GL-M292RLTL & Whirlpool NEO IC275

both are within your budget and high on energy efficiency (BEE 4 star as per 2014).

All these are BEE 4 star rated models.

  113. NARAYANA says:

    Hi,
Kindly let me the know factors to be considered before buying a refrigerator.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Size is very important because as the size increases, electricity consumption increases. And size depends on your living standards, but if you can optimize it, then it will be the best. BEE has currently rated only two door and single door models and has not rated french door or three door models. So you will get electricity consumption data only for two and single door models. Always buy highest efficiency product (in your budget) as refrigerator will be used 365 days 24 hours. Rest is again your needs: You need more space in freezer, or you store a lot of bottles, or you have lot of veggies, etc.

You can check more details on: http://www.bijlibachao.com/refrigerators/fridge-buying-guide.html

      Hi,

From an energy consumption point of view Godrej 240 PDS is better than Samsung 230 lts. Outside coil should have better heat exchange capabilities.

ESPECIALLY CONSDERING BETWEEN NO 1 AND NO 6 (GETTING THEM AT A DEAL AT APPROX 54K AND 50K RESP)
I AM PLANING ON BUYING ANYWHERE BETWEEN 490 TO 690 LTRS
MY MAIN CONCERN IS I JUST WANT A BIG VEGETABLE CRISPER…AND WANT MY FOOD AND VEGGIES TO BE FRESH FOR LONGER TIME.NOT INTRESTED MUCH IN FREEZER COMPARTMENT
I ALSO WANT TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS LG LINEAR INVERTER COMPRESSOR AND SMART INVERTER COMPRESSOR.
PLEASE SUGGEST ME TWO OPTIONS BETWEEN 400 TO 500 AND BETWEEN 500 TO 600LTR.
I WANT A ENERGY EFFICIENT AND SPACIOUS REFRIGERATOR.
I LIVE IN THANE SO PLEASE INFORM ME REGARDING THE EFFECT OF THESE REFRIGERATORS ON MY ELECTRICITY BILLS.
I TRIED TO USE YOUR CALCULATOR ON UR WEBSITE BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AT IT..(UTILITY TOOL ERROR)
PLEASE GUIDE ME ON DECIDING WHICH IS A BETTER OPTION!!!!!!

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Reshma,

Between 1 and 6, 6 is obviously better. Linear Inverter Compressor is LG’s technology where compressor has a linear motion and they claim that it can save some electricity as compared to regular smart inverter compressor. However in refrigerators, the best thing is to look the BEE star rating and units consumption per year to compare the electricity consumption. You already have found some of the most energy efficient refrigerators, so I would recommend to choose one between them. If you like model no 6 then you should go with model no 6. And I say this because the BEE 5 star rated models you have selected are higher capacity models and higher the capacity, higher is the electricity consumption. So even if they are BEE 5 star rated, they may consume equal or more than model 6 because they are bigger sized.

  123. Paras says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I am based out of Mumbai. I have started reading ur reviews only few days back & found it very useful. But now i would like u to help me to finalise on buying refrigerator fo my self as well. Actually i am very confused with brands like Godrej, LG, & Samsung. I wanted to buy Godrej RTEON – 343 PLW as the model is amazing with properly designed & intelligent storage capacity but suddenly found some bad feedback about Godrej.. Now I am very confused & dunno whether to go for it or not.. I want to go with any refrigerator between 340 – 390 Ltrs capacity with budget around 35K.. Currently I am using Whirlpool for last 7 – 8 very yrs & very much satisfied with it until it started giving problems from few months..

    • Abhishek Jain says:

You can look at any of these. All BEE 4 star:

S.No Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year)
      1 LG GL-D402RSHM 360 257
      2 LG GL-D402RPHM 360 256.92
      3 LG GL-D402RLJM 360 256.85
      4 WHIRLPOOL Neo IC355 340 271
      5 WHIRLPOOL Neo IC375 360 275
      6 LG GL-D402RPJM 360 257
      7 LG GL-P402RPJM 360 264
      8 LG GL-P402RSJM 360 264

LG models have inverter technology whereas Whirlpool does not. However they are still efficient.

    Gre. etings of the day,
    Mr. Abhishek

First I appreciate your efforts for helping out peoples and giving suggestions according to their need. Well, I am in bit confusion too I would like to buy a refrigerator but, I don’t know what to buy so, plz. Tel me the model no. As per my need.
    1. I am from rural area of India so, first issue is electricity as you know in India in remote areas state govt. Is providing only 8-10 hrs electricity in a day.
    2. Size of the refrigerator for 5 family members specially consuming dairy products and fresh vegetables. As we are thinking to buy 250-300ltrs.
    3. Service provider should be good.
    4. BEE ranking should be 4-5.
    5. Price as I am thinking upto 20k.
    6. Consider inverter technology if Suitable for us.
    7. Direct cool or frost free, single or double door.

Plz. Suggest the best option for us.
    Thanks in advance

    Regards,
    Sanjeet Chaudhary

    • Abhishek Jain says:

If you have power cuts then you should look at models from LG with Power Cut Ever Cool Technology (which claims to keep the refrigerator cool for 7 hours in power cuts). The cheapest, BEE 4 star rated refrigerator frost free in 250-300 lts range that I found with this technology is LG GL-274PMGE4. But it costs about Rs 24900 as per compare india. Direct cool (single door) refrigerators do not have inverter technology and they are mostly less than 250 lts in volume.

      • Sanjeet Chaudhary says:

        Hi..Abhishek,
I am looking for the refrigerator as you suggested LG GL 274PMGE4 But, this model is not available in the market could you please suggest me any other LG model in similar range or above plz.also consider the points I asked you before…and one more thing ..the model you suggested me before is the latest one right (2014) model. I don’t know why this model is not available in the market..thanks brother in advance.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I probably read this article a little late. However, I want to check if my decision to purchase Samsung RT27HAJMASE ( 2 days before i.e. 4th May 2014 ) was right.

I was under the impression that RT27 series is ahead of RT26 series. Also, after doing my bit of research, I thought that it is better to purchase Samsung RT27HAJMASE at Rs.19K rather than LG 252VLGY or LG 252VMGY which were available for around Rs.17.5K to Rs.18.5K.

To my surprise, I actually did not find any information ( nor any models from the RT27 series ) on the Samsung website. Also, I am not even sure if the purchased one has Digital inverter compressor ( though the salesman claimed so ).

Also, how exactly does a digital inverter compressor help? Does LG 252VMGY have a digital inverter compresser or comparable technology compressort ?

I am puzzled and want to know if I should consider changing the fridge as we have not used it yet. ( It was delivered last night )

    Thanks,
    Deepak

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Deepak,

Not sure if Samsung RT27HAJMASE is a Inverter Tech refrigerator or not, but it is a BEE 3 star refrigerator (as per 2014 ratings). Whereas the LG models you mentioned are BEE 2 star. So surely the Samsung model you have purchased is better than the LG models you were looking at. You can check this post to see how inverter technology saves electricity: http://www.bijlibachao.com/refrigerators/refrigerators-with-inverter-technology-can-help-save-electricity.html

    • Deepak Panangattiri says:

      Hi Deepak,

I am also planning to buy Samsung RT27HAJMASE. Samsung website and the salesman claims it to be a DIC.

If possible, please share your feedback.

      Thanks

      • Deepak says:

        Hi Deepak P,

Samsung RT27HAJMASE is indeed a refrigerator with DIC. There is no doubt about it. I clarified the same with Samsung customer care also.

Regarding any additional feedback about the refrigerator, It has been a good refrigerator so far for us( just a month old ).

If you get the next model in the same series for an additional Rs.1000 or so, it should be a good deal as you may get a moist-freshzone and additional such racks in the refrigerator.

        Thanks,
        Deepak.

        • Deepak Panangattiri says:

          Hi,

Thanks for your feedback and suggestion for the most-fresh zone model. Hope I can make a conclusion out of all these reviews :)

    Hi Abhishek
I would like to buy a refrigerator. I prefer LG, Hitachi and Whirlpool. Iwould like to go for Hitachi because I have an hitachi ac bought 5 years back and it is still working superbly. But anyway I value your suggestion and would like you to recommend a fridge in each category.

Can you suggest to me the Fridge model I should look out for each brand in the following categories. It should be energy efficient.

    200 to 250 Ltrs:
    250 to 300 Ltrs:
    300 to 350 Ltrs:
    350 to 400 Ltrs:
    400 to 500 Ltrs:

    • Abhishek Jain says:

As per current ratings (2014), there is only one model listed in BEE 5 star and that is from LG. However it is not available in market :). LG and Whirlpool have models listed in BEE 4 star that are in market. Hitachi models listed in BEE 4 star are not there in market. So LG and Whirlpool are the only options left. Can you please select one size range which you are really interested in?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Samsung has many models in this size range that have inverter technology compressor and they are BEE 3 star rated. None of the IFB refrigerators are in BEE 3,4 or 5 star rating.

Please help us to decide which is the right fridge among this category. Which is the best company & model in this range to go for. Please recommend it as soon as possible. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Sachin,

BEE has not rated French door and three door refrigerators so I do not have data for the two refrigerators you are asking about. But being inverter tech compressor refrigerator, my guess is that they will be energy efficient. You can also look at Samsung RT56H6679SL, RT54H6679SL and LG GR-B772GSPH (all BEE 3 star). Hitachi also has some models listed in BEE 4 star, but I could not find them online on their website.

CAN U HELP ME TO ??? THANK YOU.
    TEJAS.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Dr Tejas,

For washing machines, Direct Drive Inverter Tech washing machine is the most energy efficient. However the electricity consumption on washing machines is so less that investment on efficiency does not pay off unless you have a heavy use. For a typical cycle, a washing machine consumes max 0.5 unit. And a direct drive one may save 20-30%. But at most houses the washing machine is used max 3-4 times a week. So in a week the power consumption is max about 2 units. Which makes the savings not justify the extra investment. However direct drive inverter tech is a better technology and the comments by the salesman are not right. The reason why a company would stop making efficient ones is that the sales may not be much. And as I said it does not justify the payback if the use is less. It may be very effective in case someone buys it for a laundry business.

      Hope this helps.

(but no star rating in Hitachi why?? r u knowing if yes can u give me explaination) bottom freezer model. which one is good Samsung or bottom freezer Hitachi.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Dr Tejas,

BEE has not rated 3 door models yet. I am not sure of the reason, but that’s how it is. And as the power consumption data is not available for these models, it is difficult to comment if they will be energy efficient or not. Samsung BEE 3 star model is a safe buy in that sense.

  140. tejas kanzaria says:

    hi abhishek,

m from Ahmadabad. want to buy FF freeze. have slelcted samsung RT47H5679SL 462lit or hitachi r-sg37b bk 390l. which one is good. but with invertor??? why their is no bee energey start rating in hitachi. boh r latest model??

    • Abhishek Jain says:

samsung RT47H5679SL is a BEE 3 star rated model. Hitachi R-SG37 is not rated because it is a 3 door model. It seems BEE has not rated 3 door models yet. The samsung model is a digital inverter model. So it is safe to go for it.

  141. anjali says:

Is there any harm in taking white color refrigerator? regards

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Anjali,

Samsung RT33HDRZESL, LG’s GLD322RPJL and GLM322RATL all are BEE 4 star. So they are the most energy efficient available in the market. You can go for anyone of them.

  142. Sridhar says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I am looking for Fridge for storing vegetables/fruits, milk/dairy products, water/cool drinks of about 250 ltrs capacity, frost free, preferably 3-door.

I saw one Whirlpool 260ltr capacity 3-door frost free priced around 27,000. Is it a good idea to go for it? I am looking for efficient, low power consuming and long life product. Please advise.

    Sridhar

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Sridhar,

The 3 door models are not rated by BEE so no data is available of the model you mentioned. In fact Whirlpool is the only brand that has a 260 lts model with 3 doors. If you like the brand than you should look at NEO IC275 model which is an efficient model (BEE 4 star). Or you can look at some LG models of 258 lts: LG GL-E292RPTL, GL-M292RATL, GL-M292RLTL, GL-D292RPJL. All these are BEE 4 star as well.

      Regards,

Price 29000.In these three which one i can go. My need is 220 to 275ltrs. Or any other 4 star or 5 star rating sugestions.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Prithvi,

The difference in yearly power consumption of Samsung and LG ACs is about 70 units a year. To be practical, I would inflate it by 50% as BEE numbers are in test conditions. So difference would come about 100 units a year. Samsung model is BEE 3 star and the LG models are BEE 4 star as per 2014 BEE ratings. So from financial perspective Samsung looks more attractive. And all are inverter tech, so good in most respects. You can decide accordingly.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

  145. Vivek says:

Hi Abhishek, i am curious about which refrigerant (CFC/ HCFC/ HFC) do inverter technology refrigerators use? In other words which is the most environment friendly inverter technology refrigerator ? We are looking for around 250 L capacity frost free fridge preferably the most energy efficient one (BEE 5 star in 2014)? Please suggest us a model around 20k ?

truly rocking website, Great effort..Hats off. Thank You for creating such a go and find your all the answers about home electricity questions….All The Best

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Vivek,

Firstly there are hardly a few BEE 5 star rated models in 2014 yet. Looks like manufacturers have not geared up to it yet :). And they are expensive as well. The best 250 L capacity model you can get in your budget is Samsung RT26FARZASP. Samsung website mentions it as BEE 5 star but it is as per old rating, now it is BEE 3 star. And it is inverter tech. It has R-600a which is a green refrigerant. It is neither CFC/HCFC or HFC, it is HC (Hydrocarbon) :). Most commonly used green HFC is R-134A.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

      • Vivek says:

Thank You Abhishek for the answer

since we live in UP where power cuts are quite frequent, we compromised on capacity and zeroed on lg GL-245BINDE5 with Ever Cool technology. Will it be a good choice for us? This model does not feature in Top 10 list in its category. If it is a newer model then please tell us about its per year power consumption or its BEE rating as lg does not have this info on there website. Last but not the least its environment friendliness?

        Regards
        Vivek

      • Vivek says:

or any better choice then GL-245BINDE5 in market….

        Regards
        Vivek

      • Vivek says:

        Correction its model GL-245BNDE5

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Vivek,

Ever Cool is a LG technology and if you want it then LG is the brand that you will have to go for. I could not find the model you mentioned on the BEE list. The models that are energy efficient and about 250 lts are:

          LG GL-P292RPJL
          LG GL-M292RLTL
          LG GL-M292RATL
          LG GL-E292RPTL
          LG GL-D292RPJL

    Hi Abhishek,

I am Vishwanath from Bangalore. First of all, I really appreciate your knowledge on refrigerator and the way in which are helping people to buy best products for their need.

I buying refrigerator for first time. Please suggest a best mode for our family need. My budget it 12-16k. My family has three members and we are vegetarian. We will be using the refrigerator only for dairy products, vegetables, fruits, cool drinks etc. (we will not be using it for cooked food). My other requirements are,

    1. Frost free
    2. Most Energy efficient
    3. Eco friendly
    4. Good post sale service
    5. Additional features, inverter technology, adjustable shelves, removable bins

As per my basic knowledge, a 190ltr single door model will be sufficient for our need. But, there are no frost free refrigerators availablat at 190ltr capacily. Is frost free feature must, can I go for direct cool model?

    Please suggest.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Vishwanath

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Vishwanath,

There are no frost free models in 190 lts. It is not a must to go for frost free models. Frost free makes sure that the ice does not get deposited in the freezer. In Direct cool you need to defrost the fridge time to time by switching it off for a few hours to remove the ice. You can look at these models: Godrej RD EP 190PDS and RD EP 190PD. They are most efficient and will fit in your budget.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    PRICE LIMIT -12000/-
    CONSUME LESS POWER ,LESS MAINTENANCE,
and which is better frost free or direct cool ,for home purpose

    • Abhishek Jain says:

The best ones in 190L single door are Godrej RD EP 190PDS and RD EP 190PD. However they are for about 15000-16000. Else LG has lots of models in 190 lts that have good energy efficiency as well as will fit in your budget as well. For home purpose both are good but you will not find 190 lts frost free refrigerator.

  148. Parvez Khan says:

    Dear Abhishek,

As per ur suggestion the model i.e, LG GL-D322RPJZ is not available anywhere in Mumbai even in the LG website. Today my Wife purchased LG GL-D402RSHM 360lts refrigerator. Is her decision right? as it only consumes on 257 watts.

Other thing the Refrigerator purchased has a digital display on the door while the picture shown in the LG website does not have this feature. Can u please suggest me is this the old model which is purchased by us.

    Thanks and Regards

    Parvez Khan
    Mumbai

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Parvez,

It is a BEE 4 star rated model and is quite good. So you purchased the right one. And the picture that I see on LG website does have digital display on the door (right at the bottom of freezer door). I don’t think it is an old model.

      Hi Anirban,

You can check BEE 5 star rated LG GL-548GEX5, however it is not a french window refrigerator. I doubt if any french door model is available in the size range you are looking for. If you get one make sure that you buy one with inverter compressor.

      Hope this helps.

    Hi Abhishek

I have planed to buy LG refrigerator only, my need is 250 to 350 ltr range, I want frost free and inverter compressor model so I am going for double door also we don’t have a frequent power cut problem here in chennai pls suggest glp292rpjl ,glm292rltl , glp302rpjl , glm302rltl which one to go considering the rates also give a idea of power cut cool technology and it’s usage ie whether can we switch off the refrigerator twice a weekday to control power consumption

    With regards
    Venkat

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Venkat,

LG GL-D322RPJZ which is 310 lts refrigerator is the only refrigerator which currently appears as BEE 5 star in BEE’s list. The other that are in BEE 4 star are:

      LG GL-314PNGE4 310
      LG GL-D322RPJL 310
      LG GL-D302RPJL 285
      LG GL-E302RPTL 285
      LG GL-M302RATL 285
      LG GL-M302RLTL 285
      LG GL-E322RPTL 310
      LG GL-M322RATL 310
      LG GL-M322RLTL 310
      LG GL-D372RLJM 335
      LG GL-D372RPHM 335
      LG GL-D372RSHM 335
      LG GL-P322RPJL 310
      LG GL-P302RPJL 285

As for the power cut cool technology, LG has put in some extra valves that open up when the power goes off and it keeps moving the refrigerant in the system thus keeping it cool. They claim that it can keep things cool for 7 hours. However it is like kind of storing energy for times when there is no energy. The power consumption will depend on the heat that the refrigerator has to take out from the inside of the compartment. So I do not think there will be significant savings by switching off the refrigerator.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,

Thank you for helping so many people out. Which brand of refrigerator do you recommend based on post sale service. Also is it correct that Haier and Sharp have better built quality?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Maestri,

In general Japanese brands have better build quality but from service point of view korean brands have a better reach as they have a larger market share. And currently for refrigerators, LG and Samsung seem to be making really energy efficient refrigerators. One has to truly weigh in various factors before making a purchase.

      Hope this helps.

          Hi,

Here are responses to your questions:

Q1> Is there any refrigerator which includes water dispenser and inverter compressor ?

Yes there are several of them. Especially in Samsung.

Q2> What is the units consumption of lg GL-379PSXD5 per year ?

I could not find the data in BEE database, but I guess it would be around 210-220 units per year.

Q3> As you posted does lg GL-D322RPJZ consumes lowest power comparing other refrigerators even comparing with What is the model no of the lowest volume refrigerator having water dispenser ?

It will be difficult to find out as I do not have feature specific data to filter out models having water dispenser. But the LG model you selected looks pretty good as it is also BEE 5 star rated.

          • dipayandey says:

            too good bro

in Ltrs and other technical terms like Direct Cool / frost free, so pls suggest me a best model of fridge which serves my purpose and also value of Money.

We want to use this fridge only for keeping vegetables, Milk, water and other cool drinks. (Usage will be very nominal as we keep only vegetables and Milk mostly)
    Please suggest me.

    Thanks in Advance!

    Regards
    Ranjith

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Ranjith,

The difference between Direct Cool (single door) and Frost Free (multi-door) is that frost free refrigerators do not accumulate Ice around the freezer and thus you do not have to shut down the refrigerator periodically just to remove Ice all the time. Till sometime back for the same size Direct Cools used to consume lesser electricity (as they did not have the extra feature of defrosting), but with improving technology in frost free (like inverter technology), frost frees have become more electricity efficient than direct cools. Also the sale of frost free refrigerators have increased significantly and thus manufacturers have focused less on improving Direct Cool refrigerators. It has also happened because direct cool refrigerators are not considered as premium refrigerators. Another difference is that in Direct Cool you will not get refrigerator beyond 250-280 lts, whereas in frost free it starts from 250 lts and goes up to 650 lts.

Benefit of inverter tech is also that the temperature in the refrigerator is more consistent and thus the food remains fresh for long. Inverter Tech also saves a lot of electricity.

Now for your small family, you do not need much bigger than 250-260 lts. So you can look at Whirlpool NEO IC275 DELUXE 4S or LG GL-M292RLTL which are about 250-260 lts and BEE 4 star rated (which means they are highly energy efficient). Out of the two the LG model is also has inverter tech compressor.

      Hope this helps.

      Abhishek

  161. Bharathi Sarkar says:

    Samsung RT42FDAGASL , LG GL-M472GSHM , LG GL-548GEX5 – Are all these 3 from the inverter series –
Which of the 3 is a better choice of refrigerator.
In General is Samsung or LG which is a better brand for fridge?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Bharathi,

Yes, all 3 models you mentioned are inverter series models. Samsung RT42FDAGASL , LG GL-M472GSHM , LG GL-548GEX5 are BEE 3 star, 4 star and 5 star respectively. I guess the choice will be dependent on the feature you need as all three have different features. On efficiency scale the BEE 5 star model is the most efficient. In General LG is sold as premium brand for refrigerators over Samsung.

      Hope this helps.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Parvez,

As per BEE data LG GL-D322RPJZ is the most energy efficient 310 lts BEE 5 star refrigerator. In BEE 4 star rating these models come up:

Whirlpool NEO IC375 (360 Ltr) series
Whirlpool NEO IC355 (340 Ltr) series
Whirlpool NEO IC305 (292 Ltr) series
      LG GL-D372RPJM

      LG GL-D372RSHM
      LG GL-D372RPHM
      LG GL-D372RLJM

My suggestion would be to go for the BEE 5 star rated model (especially in Mumbai where electricity tariffs are so high).

    hy abhishek

i want to buy around 300 lits refrigerator. i have selected two model 1st one is Samsung RT36HDRYASH 345 lits

with DIGITAL INVERTeR technology (3 star rating, 330 unit consumption per year, price 34,000) and 2nd LG GL-

D373RPHM/2014 335 lits with samrt inverter technology (4 star rating, price 41,000 253 unit consumption).

    my question and confusion are>>>>

    1. my totally confused in their technology which one ??? is digital invertor tecnology better that smart invertor??? can

u give me some idea on this two technology please

    2. salesman say that samsung 3star rating consume all over less electricity and save 4000 to 5000 rs per year as

compared to 4star LG when u r actuality start using it ( not ideal test condition).is it right?? because samsung used

    dc power etc..

    3. price diiferent of almost 6000rs.//

so which one better abhishek???? my brain say go with samsung with digital inverter techology but hear t say go

with time tested lg????? can u help me out to choose model??? or u can suggest other better model also.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Dr Tejas,

The ratings that are mentioned on label are certainly in test conditions. What we have observed is that the actual consumption is 30-50% more than the number mentioned on the label. The difference between the 2 models you mentioned is about 80 units. If you take 30% extra it comes to 100-110 units a year. I am not sure where you are located or what your electricity prices are, but at Rs 5 a unit it is savings of Rs 500-550 per year. It will be more if your electricity tariffs are more. So if your electricity rate is about Rs 5, I would suggest that you go for Samsung as Rs 6000 will be recovered in 12 years (unless you have a brand affinity for LG)!! But if your rate of electricity is more (like many in mumbai pay Rs 11 per unit), in that case one can think about paying Rs 6000 more.

As for the technology, both are the same, digital invertor is a smart invertor.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Megharaj,

The two Samsung models are better as they have Digital Inverter Technology compressor. I think these are the best that you can get in your budget.

LG is slightly more expensive than Samsung and thus a similar sized LG refrigerator may be bit more expensive (you can look at LG GL-P292RPJL which is for Rs 27000). Whirlpool does not have inverter technology, but has it’s own 6th sense technology.

    hi abi

I am looking to buy a rfrigerator around 500-600 litres inverter technology..bt i want your opinion to buy whether side by side fridge or double door . as want more capacity in the fridge as compared to freezer. i m looking for the models between RT56H6679SL and RS21HSTPN or RT5582ATB(samsung model) or ( LG) GR-B772GSPH or GC-B207GSQV. So suggest me which brand & which model either side by side or double door shud i go for ?

    thanks

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Jaspreet,

A side by side refrigerator has more space in freezer than models with freezer on top. If you need more fridge space then you should go for models with freezer on top. Both Samsung RT56H6679SL and LG GR-B772GSPH are BEE 3 star rated refrigerators and have inverter technology compressor. These are two most energy efficient models in the size category you are looking for. As for the brands, LG has been coming out with most energy efficient models and have maximum number of top efficient models. Samsung is next. However I think japanese brands like Hitachi & Panasonic also make good products. But for now LG rules on BEE (2014) list on refrigerators.

      Hope this helps.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Sonam,

The model you selected is a 560 lts model. Are you looking for something between 350 and 500 or you need refrigerator bigger than that?

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          HI Sonam,

You can look at LG GL-M542GPHM (495 ltrs). It is a BEE 4 star rated model (as per 2014 ratings) with annual electricity consumption of 299 units. It is the most energy efficient refrigerator as per BEE data in the volume range that you are looking for.

          Hope this helps.

          Abhishek

Currently in market most of 275 lts models with BEE 4 star rating are from LG which generally costs more compared to other brands. How much difference will it make if we buy BEE 3 star model considering the price difference? Which model you will suggest for 275 lts? Thanks.

    2. I have a Samsung single door refrigerator and it is making noise(so confused if should go for double door of same brand)
    3. I am quite impressed with Panasonic with bottom freezer but its consumption is 399 units per year.

    Waiting for ur response

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Megha,

Currently LG and Whirlpool are the two brands that have the most energy efficient models in the range that you are looking at. Whirlpool has NEO IC305 292 lts which is BEE 4 star rated (annual electricity consumption of 259 units) and LG GL-D302RPJL, GL-E302RPTL, GL-M302RATL, GL-M302RLTL all 285 lts again BEE 4 star rated (annual electricity consumption of 242 units). You can go for any of these as these are the most efficient available currently in this size range.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

      • Megha says:

Thanks Abhishek for your valuable inputs.
I had one final question. between Lg and Panasonic, which one has better cooling ? I normally tend to buy fresh vegetables for a whole week and store it the fridge. So if cooling is not good the veggies do not last long.

        Thanks,
        -Megha

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Megha,

Any digital inverter compressor model will have more consistent cooling and should keep the veggies better. Panasonic is a japanese brand and they are quite good on their technology. But LG has been coming out with the most energy efficient models in India lately. The LG models I mentioned in my previous response are all with digital inverter compressor. I did not find any panasonic model in the size range you need with inverter compressor. So my vote will surely go for LG for now.

          Hope this helps.

          Regards,
          Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek
I am planning to buy a refrigerator, 500-600 litre capacity. Based in Delhi. Which brand would you recommend. I have seen Sharp (sjpk64m) and LG (gn m702gshh). Both are double door. Sharp does give 10 year warranty. How is BOSCH and Panasonic for refrigerators. Please advice. Thanks

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Pragya,

LG refrigerators seem to be dominating the BEE efficiency charts and thus I must say that they are making the most energy efficient refrigerators. In refrigerators, it is very important to go for one with Inverter Technology, so amongst the two you mentioned, I would go for the LG one. Although Panasonic and BOSCH are good brand and frankly panasonic is good in Air Conditioners, but their market is quite less in refrigerators. Refrigerator market is mostly dominated by LG, Samsung, Godrej, Hitachi, Whirlpool, Videocon, Kelvinator.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Tapendra,

Size of refrigerator depends on lifestyle and eating habits. So certainly I cannot correctly judge if 400 lts will be sufficient for you, but it sounds ok (I have seen 4 member family buying 500+ lts fridge as they felt that it was needed for them). You can look at following LG GL-M472GLJM or LG GL-M472GSHM or LG GL-M472GPHM (all of these are 420 lts models and are most energy efficient in that size and BEE 4 star rated models as per 2014 ratings). The last one looks most attractive.

      Hope this helps.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Mr Jain,

Single Door or direct cool refrigerators are mostly less than 250 lts in size. There are very few models that are above 250 lts. However you can look at this model: Videocon (VCP324 & VCE324) or Kelvinator (KCP324 & KCE324) which are 307 lts models and price is about Rs 19000.

      Hope this helps.

      Hi Nitin,

I would suggest going for any model with Inverter Compressor. LG has a few 420 lts models on their site. Even the panasonic models you have mentioned have inverter compressor. So you can certainly go for the Panasonic models.

      Hope this helps.

          • Abhishek Jain says:

            Hi Nitin,

RT55KZRSL is not an inverter tech model. Also it has an old BEE 4 star rating which is equivalent to 2 star rating in 2014. The panasonic models you mentioned certainly look better than this one.

            Hope this helps.

            Regards,

Hi I am interested in buying a 300-400 lts. Fridge. I am highly confused which brand and model to select from Hitachi, ifb, haier, bosch, lg or Samsung. It should be a value for money.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Sonal,

The best Fridge between this range that I can suggest is LG GL-D322RPJZ (BEE 5 star). It the most energy efficient fridge in the market today. As per BEE’s latest ratings (2014) only LG has the most efficient refrigerators (BEE 5 and 4 star). All others have BEE 3 star rated Fridges. If you feel that the size of the above mentioned fridge is small then you can also look at LG GL-D372RPHM (which is a BEE 4 star rated Fridge).

      Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I am looking for bottom door refrigerators which are INVERTER . I had check and looks like there are many options with panasonic. Is the correct that inverter in this catergory are not rated by BEE since its inverter fridge.

Also, please guide me which inverter fridge is better for bottom door(freezer towards bottom). Reason i am looking for bottom fridge is because of less consumption and easy to operate. Please correct me. No of ppl using will be 3 + 1(child).

    Looking forward for your response

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Amar,

It’s only in Air Conditioners that Inverter Technology is not rated on BEE ratings. For Refrigerators, all inverter techs have been rated on BEE star rating. And your understanding is right, the refrigerators with freezer at the bottom are more efficient than freezer at the top models. But efficiency also depends on several other factors other than the freezer placement. What is better is to look at BEE star rating to get idea on efficiency. As per my understanding with 3+1 people in your house, about a 350 lts fridge would be good for you. But you are better judge of the size as it depends a lot on your lifestyle as well.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

      Hi,

If you are fine with about 258 lts, here are some models from LG that are the most efficient ones in the market right now:

      LG GL-P292RPJL
      LG GL-M292RLTL
      LG GL-M292RATL
      LG GL-E292RPTL
      LG GL-D292RPJL.

i want to buy a 180 or 190 lt refrigerator but confused btw LG,Samsung,Godrej.Which one will be the best option ????Plz suggest ????????

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Sachin,

You will not get frost free (double door) refrigerators of size 180-190 lts. You will have to go for Direct Cool refrigerators of that size. The most efficient ones in that size are from Godrej (model nos): RD EP 190PD, RD EP 190PDS, RD EP 190 CW.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

I want to buy a 240lt refrigerator but confused btw LG,Samsung & Godrej.Which one will be the best option ????Plz suggest ????????

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Paul,

If you are fine with 258 lts, here are some models that are BEE 4 star rated and have the lowest electricity consumption:

      LG GL-P292RPJL
      LG GL-M292RLTL
      LG GL-M292RATL
      LG GL-E292RPTL

The reason I have listed only LG is because there is no other brand which has a BEE 4/5 star rated refrigerator (as per 2014 ratings) in the range that you are looking for.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    Hi,
I am planing to buy 400 litre energy efficient refrigerator please suggest me best model among Samsung/Godrej/LG/Whirlpool.. samsung RT42FEJQASP is it suitable for me?
    Thank You.
    Regards,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Salim,

Samsung RT42FEJQASP is an inverter tech model which is rated as 3 Star on current BEE star rating. Samsung has registered 3 more models for BEE 4 star rating on 14th Feb this year: RT39HDAGESL, RT39HDJTESP, RT42HDAGESL but it seems they have not released them in the market yet. There are none in the 5 star rating as per standards by BEE in 2014. For the 400 liters range, the model you have chosen looks like a good one and I think you should go for it.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    Hi ,

I am Planning to But Samsung RT42FDAGASL Refrigerator ….

In this Range is it good or Any other Best Models are there ?

    Please suggest me FAST….

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Prathap,

BEE India has made it’s star rating guidelines stricter this year. So the Samsung Model you mentioned moved from BEE 5 star rating to BEE 3 star rating this year. Even though it is a inverter tech model. In the current year the BEE website does not have many models in 5 star rating (as the ratings are recently revised). I would suggest that you also look at LG GL-478GLQ5. LG website claims that it is 5 star rated inverter tech model, but I am not sure if LG has updated its website with new star ratings. I quick comparison on the BEE label between the two models will help you figure out which is more efficient (label will have yearly units consumption). I also tried looking at Whirlpool and Haier, but could not find inverter tech model in this size range. Otherwise the model you selected is a good one. Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    Hi,
We recently bought Whirlpool refrigerator – NEO 275DLX (see my earlier comment). Company executive who came to give demo at home, told us that voltage in our plug is 239 and 220 is what machine is built to handle. Due to this, machine life will became shorter. He suggested to buy stabilizer for preventing high voltage on machine. Could you please advise whether to have stabilizer for residential purpose.

    Thanks & regards
    Pankit

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Pankit,

Typically appliances have a range of voltage at which they can operate. It cannot be fixed 220 volts, it should have a tolerance level. Also voltage stabilizer is needed when there are high voltage fluctuations in your house. Because if voltage goes beyond a refrigerator’s tolerance level, the refrigerator may fail completely. Can you check the user manual of the refrigerator and find out the voltage range at which it can operate? In places like Mumbai we mostly do not use stabilizers because the fluctuation is not high (it is mostly in range). But if you do have high fluctuations at your place, then you certainly need a voltage stabilizer else you don’t.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    Hi Pankit,

Samsung has some good models with Digital Inverter Compressor in the 200 to 300 lts capacity range. On their website the MRP of some of the models is between 22-24 K. I am sure the price in the market must be close to 20K. You can try looking for these models: RT26FAJSASL, RT26FARZASP, RT26FAJYASA.

    Hope this helps.

I saw models of all three companies, Digital inverter model also we saw, Salesguy was telling that operating system of fridge works on digital chip. Thought, chipbased system is more prone to risk when there is frequent loadshedding as it takes more time to reboot system.

Then, we shortlisted models of godrej and whirlpool companies, and ended up buying Whirlpool…

      Thanks for replying.

I am looking to buy 500+ ltr refridgarator for my family. which is best to buy

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Punit,

A 500+ lts refrigerator is a huge refrigerator. The bigger the size of refrigerator more the electricity it consumes. It is always recommended to buy refrigerator of size that fits your personal need. I would always recommend buying a refrigerator with digital inverter technology compressor as they are the most efficient in saving electricity. As refrigerators are used 365 days and all 24 hours, it makes sense to buy refrigerator with inverter technology. In case you are looking for refrigerator of 500 lts, there will be many options available in inverter tech. Hitachi, Haier, LG and Samsung have several models in that size with inverter technology. You can choose the brand of your preference (based on your experience), but my suggestion would be to go for digital inverter technology compressor.

      Hope that helps.

      Regards,

      Abhishek

Hello, I am looking to buy Refrigerator 200 to 275 Ltr. Frostfree double door. ….Pl. suggest which is best brand, & Energy Efficient, attractive, Below 60″ Inch hight, pricewise Models …….Manohar

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Jadhav,

For the size you are looking for, Samsung has good models with Digital Inverter Technology compressor. Inverter tech is the most efficient technology available in the market and one should surely go for it. Price wise the inverter tech fridges are comparable to any other BEE 5 star rated refrigerator. And as a refrigerator is used 365 days and all 24 hours, it is better to go for the efficient ones. A regular refrigerator of this size would consume about 1.5 units a day. Inverter tech comes out to be 20-30% more efficient than this. You can look at Samsung refrigerators’ website to get the models (but do look for Digital Inverter Compressor).

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

    Hello Abhishek,

Which refrigerator will you suggest me to buy(in delhi) . i am only interested in LG,Samsung and Kelvinator.
    Thank you.
and i also want to know your source of knowledge.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Akash,

Apologies for delayed reply. If you are looking for refrigerator between 200-300 lts, my suggestion would be to go for Samsung refrigerators with Digital Inverter Technology (eg Samsung RT28FAJSALX). Digital Inverter is the most efficient technology and there are very few brands that make refrigerator with inverter tech in this volume range. And Delhi has extreme climates, thus inverter tech will be ideal for your use.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

Dear Sir, We are family of 5 people looking to buy good power saving refrigerator with capacity around 450 ltrs.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Shah,

Inverter Tech is the most efficient technology available in the market and if you look at the list above you will find that LG has some good inverter tech models in the sizes that you need. For e.g. LG GL-528GSX5, LG GL-548GEX5. As a refrigerator will be switched on all 24 hours a day, it is always good to go for the most efficient model.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

  210. Abhijit Gogoi says:

    Hi Abhishek,

Congratulations and thankyou for this wonderful initiative. I wish you all the success!

My wife keeps the refrigerator on all time. Is it a good practice? In the regular intervals when the refrigerator automatically switches off, does it still consumes electricity?

    Thanks,
    Abhijit Gogoi

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Abhijit,

It truly depends. If you have food that can perish if you switch off the refrigerator, then switching off the refrigerator does not make sense as it will not serve its purpose. If the food can stay good even with switching off the refrigerator for a few hours in a day, then why not switch it off. If you need ice regularly then you may have to keep the freezer switched on. Else you can switch it off.

As far as electricity consumption of the refrigerator is concerned, the major component that consumes most of the electricity is the compressor. The compressor switches off when the thermostat senses the optimum temperature in the refrigerator. The other sensors still continue to run but their electricity consumption is miniscule. So to give a good answer to your question: a refrigerator effectively consumes no electricity when it automatically switches off.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Abhishek

Hello, I am looking to buy Refrigerator 250 to 300 Ltr frost free double door for Nasik…. Please suggest Energy Efficient models………… Thank you

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Sunit,

Inverter Technology is the most energy efficient technology in the market right now. Any model with Digital Inverter Tech will give you at least 20% savings. Samsung has good number of models with Digital Inverter in the range that you want. You can look at Model Nos: RT28FAJSARX, RT33FAJFALX, RT33FAJFABX and RT28FAJSALX. Else you can look at 5 star rated refrigerators mentioned above.

      Hi Arpit,

Any refrigerator with a Digital Inverter Compressor is the best right now. Samsung has a lot of them in the range you need. For eg Samsung RT33FAJFALX or RT33FAJFABX or RT28FAJSARX. Haier also has a couple of Inverter Tech models: HRB 386 WFG and HRB 386 SFG but they are slightly bigger. You can check anyone of them.

I think this list needs to be renewed since there are so many models now. Also I wanted to know, has anyone carried out a test with a power meter on any of those inverter models as to how much Kwh/yr they actually consume with our actual usage & environment Vs ratings ?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello,

We do a monthly check on BEE data to update the lists. So this list is not more than a month old. We will certainly do another round of check this month. We have done some tests on a few refrigerators in Mumbai (data on this link http://www.bijlibachao.in/Refrigerators/replacing-old-or-buying-new-why-a-bee-5-star-rated-refrigerator-always-makes-sense.html). But all those were regular refrigerators and not inverter ones. We are trying to get some tests done on inverter AC/Refrigerators as well and will try to publish them soon. Hope this helps.
