Top Ten Refrigerators in India by electricity consumption and size in 2015

By on June 5, 2015

There are multiple types and brands of refrigerators or fridges available in the market today. Everyone wishes to be informed before making a buying decision of a refrigerator. Most sources on the Internet provide details on features and reviews. Electricity consumption hardly becomes the deciding factor. To help people make electricity consumption as deciding factor, we at Bijli Bachao have decided to put up a list of Top Ten refrigerators in India by electricity consumption and size.

Top Refrigerator
  • The basis of this ranking is the data from BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency). BEE data contains yearly electricity consumption of a refrigerator and this information is self reported by the manufacturers. The data is calculated in test conditions.
  • We have taken the data on electricity consumption and categorised it by the capacity or volume of the refrigerator. The refrigerator with the least value of units/lts is given the highest ranking. Multiple models with the same value are given the same rank.
  • The list below contains only the top ten ranked refrigerators. List of all BEE star rated refrigerators are available on the useful links given below.
  • Use the ‘Add to compare’ icon to compare the monetary value of the units available from BEE based on your tariff from your electricity provider and your usage.
  • Please note Direct Cool refrigerators are single door refrigerators and Frost Free refrigerators are multi door refrigerators.
  • We regularly update this list as new models get added in the BEE list of refrigerators.

Hi,

We are a family of 4, and plan to buy a refrigerator with a size nearing 500 litres. How is t eh convertibel refrigerator of samsung and reviews about its functionality.
We need bigger space for vegetables and fruit, since we stock them once a week. Freezer requirement si minimal as we hardly use ice cubes or fre ice creams.
we like samsungs models withthe water dispenser look outside, however are confused between samsung and LG’s. The refrigerators which are realtively high on their width, look attractive basis their looks. Please also suggest basis the power consumtion. Is the convertible fridge agood optio, because we can store few of our fruits in teh freezer section and could give us more space.
Thanks for the suggestions in advance.

Hi Team,

Thank you so much, for the prompt response. Also, we like the samsung RT56H667ESL (555 litre) model; which has great looks (the width is relatively bigger around 790 mm) and a water dispenser on the door makes it look all the more stylish and sophisticated. It has got 4 stars and is high on space. The veggie basket is quite big and has got a seprate fruit basket too. I really like the look from inside and outside both, with a steel finish. It has Digital Inverter Technology and is frost free too. Can you please suggest about this particular model too. It is costing us around 55K. I am a little confused between this particular model and the samsung convertibel refrigerators(which has a plus point of getting the freezer space utilized).
I appreciate the team for the great feedback.

Hi… We are a family of two… No kids… Want to buy a refrigerator.. Please guide on the model to choose… Electricity is a big issue in our town… Power comes for 12-18 hrs a day, many small and long power cuts through out day and night… What should be the right decision.. Which model to choose from…??
Main requirement is that it makes us available cool water and ice in such summers.. Food and milk are not stored for more than a day or two…. Vegetables also we prefer to buy fresh… But could be stored for not more than a day or two… Your expert and valuable comments will be helpfull for us to make a final choice.. Thanks..

Hello sir. If two refrigerators have the same 5 star rating and expected power consumption is marked at 248watts per year. Will the actual power consumption units be the same?
