This article is also available in these languages: hi Hindi

There are multiple types and brands of refrigerators or fridges available in the market today. Everyone wishes to be informed before making a buying decision of a refrigerator. Most sources on the Internet provide details on features and reviews. Electricity consumption hardly becomes the deciding factor. To help people make electricity consumption as deciding factor, we at Bijli Bachao have decided to put up a list of Top Ten refrigerators in India by electricity consumption and size.

Top Refrigerator
  • The basis of this ranking is the data from BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency). BEE data contains yearly electricity consumption of a refrigerator and this information is self reported by the manufacturers. The data is calculated in test conditions.
  • We have taken the data on electricity consumption and categorised it by the capacity or volume of the refrigerator. The refrigerator with the least value of units/lts is given the highest ranking. Multiple models with the same value are given the same rank.
  • The list below contains only the top ten ranked refrigerators. List of all BEE star rated refrigerators are available on the useful links given below.
  • Use the ‘Add to compare’ icon to compare the monetary value of the units available from BEE based on your tariff from your electricity provider and your usage.
  • Please note Direct Cool refrigerators are single door refrigerators and Frost Free refrigerators are multi door refrigerators.
  • We regularly update this list as new models get added in the BEE list of refrigerators.

    Whirlpool 190 ltr or,
    GODREJ RD EP 190PD
    GODREJ RD EP 190PDS
GODREJ RH EDGE DIGI 190 PDS 5.1.
    Please suggest me.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Anwesh,

GODREJ RD EP 190PD and GODREJ RD EP 190PDS amongst the models you have selected are most energy efficient, however Whirlpool 190 lts model has the technology to keep refrigerator cool even during the power cuts. LG has the models that are low on energy consumption and also has technology to keep refrigerator cool during power cuts. However I must say Whirlpool 190 lts model is not bad at all. You can go for it if you like Whirlpool brand.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi,
Godrej model has the highest energy consumption. Whirlpool and Haier have the same energy consumption, Haier has slightly more volume as compared to Whirlpool. I think Haier would be a better option.

    Hello Sir
iam confused to choose between Samsung RR2315TCARX/TL and Whirlpool 260Fusion Royal. Which is the best Features and Technology?
Which is less power consumption?? please Advice me

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Whirlpool 260Fusion Royal is better. It’s power consumption is less even when it has slightly more volume. It’s 6th sense technology is quite good.

  4. Amit says:

Sir can you suggest me best brand for AC (appx. 25 to 30 k) also .

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Amit,

There are several factors that one need to consider while buying AC:

      1) Tonnage of AC: Depends on several factors, but primarily on size of room, city where you live in, window sizes, people in the room. Oversized AC consumes more electricity, and undersized does not cool properly.

      2) Star Rating: Choice of BEE 5 star/inverter tech or a lower rating depends on your usage of AC. If your usage is more than 1000 hrs per year (with traiff more than Rs 5), it is better to go for higher efficiency models. Benefit of inverter tech is that it is a variable tonnage AC and as the tonnage requirement is different every month and every day, this AC auto adjusts to the needs and thus saves electricity.

      3) Brand: Some brands offer better reliability/technology and some have better service network. One has to factor in both. Once you have decided on star rating, the most efficient models from good brands can be selected.

If you provide us with more details as in which city you are in, what is the size of your room, which floor they are on, is there any floor above it, are the walls exposed to sun, usage in hours per day and months per year, and approximate budget, then we can recommend you something

  5. Amit says:

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      You can look at these:

      LG GL-M292RATL
      LG GL-M292RLTL
      Samsung RT27HDRZESA/TL
      LG GL-B292RMTL

      SAMSUNG RT27HARZASP/TL
      SAMSUNG RT27HAJSALX/TL
      SAMSUNG RT27HAJSAWX/TL

Both the brands are good. LG is slightly more energy efficient for the same size.

  6. SenDhil says:

    Hi Abhishek Jain

Im planing to buy fridge under <200 with some condition – power saving, Evercool technology in power cut time and gud in Warranty !!
Kindly suggest me a gud one
    Advance thanks

    Regards
    SenDhil

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Evercool technology is a LG technology. A few others have technology to keep freezer cool during power cuts. LG has technology to keep the whole refrigerator cool during power cuts. You can look at these from LG:

      LG GL-205KAGE5
      LG GL-205XFGE5
      LG GL-205XFDE5
      LG GL-205XADE5

      • SenDhil says:

what abt year unit & warranty ?

        • Abhishek Jain says:

They consume 245 units in a year. LG Owner Manual states: LG Refrigerator comes with 1 + 4 year warranty, from the date of purchase. 1 year warranty is for all parts (except light bulbs, Consumables, Loose Plastic Parts, Glass) and thereafter 4 years additional warranty on the compressor.

  7. Tanmoy says:

Sir, I want to know what is the difference between LG GL-P292RPJL and LG GL-D292RPJL.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

LG GL-P292RPJL has Power Cut Evercool technology that can keep the whole fridge cool for up to 7 hours during power cuts. Whereas LG GL-D292RPJL has Durachill technology that can keep only the freezer (and not the whole refrigerator) cool for few hours during power cuts.

  8. anoop says:

hello sir, yesterday i bought a new whirlpool refrigerator 190 ltr i asked them to give 5 star rated single door refrigerator. they gave me a refrigerator of rs 16800 and they told me its five star rated new model .but i saw on the refrigerator model num is 205 icemagic roy hc 4s . i searched in online but i din’t get any information about this so can u tell me the is it 5star or 4 star. and is the price is correct ?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Anoop,

205 Icemagic royal is a BEE 5 star rated model from BEE (http://www.whirlpoolindia.com/refrigerator/single-door/205-icemagic-royal-5s-190l). Are you sure it had 4S written on it and not 5S?

      • anoop says:

yes sir it is 4s, i called the whirlpool customer care they said 205-icemagic roy 5s 5star /2014 model &205-icemagic roy 4s 4star /2015 model have the same energy consumption 260 units per year so both are same . as per 2015 BEE regulations they just reduce one star . thanks for ur reply sir

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Anoop,

At 260 units per year it has to be BEE 4 star. So it seems that the whirlpool website is not updated and this model is a 4 star model.

  9. Sandeep Chaudhari says:

I want to buy single door ref <300ltr. Can you guide me WHICH IS THE BEST BETWEEN LG OR SAMSUNG ? how is the LG 270ltr model GL 285BNG5/2014.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Sandeep,

Do you really want to go for single door model when you are planning to buy a refrigerator of size more than 250 lts? I would recommend that you go for double door models as you will save electricity. Both LG and Samsung are good. However if you have power cuts in your areas, you will get better refrigerators with powercut evercool technology in LG.

Hitachi has the most energy efficient 600+ lts refrigerators. It is the only brand that has BEE 4 star rated refrigerators. Other brands only have BEE 3 star rated refrigerators in that size. Here are some models:

      BEE 4 star:
      HITACHI R-VG660PND3
      HITACHI R-V660PND3KX
      HITACHI R-V660PND3K
      HITACHI R-V720PND1KX-1

      BEE 3 star
      HITACHI R-V720PND1KX
      LG GR-B812GSPH
      LG GR-B772GSPH
      LG GR-M772HSHM

I have heard some complaints about Hitachi Sales Service in some cities but many people love hitachi and want to go for it. So it is like a mixed response just like any other brand. The best people to get response about their service in your local area are your local dealers and people who have used the brand. We have not heard of any problems with their rubber beading.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Hitachi BEE 4 star rated refrigerator would be quite good. It has inverter technology. Top Freezer models are in general more energy efficient than bottom freezer models. You can check these:

      HITACHI R-VG540PND3 489
      HITACHI R-V540PND3K 489
      HITACHI R-V540PND3KX 489

      Hi Rachana,

I cannot comment on the color, but if you are looking for energy efficient models then you can look at any of these:

      LG GL-D292RSJZ 258 lts

thank you so much abhishek and among lists you ve mentioned above, which would you recommend for a double door, easy maintainance, with a reasonable price and on which website i could order it.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Rachana,

What is your budget because reasonable price is very subjective to individuals?

          • rachana says:

            within 25-26thousand.

          • Abhishek Jain says:

I would suggest that you go for Samsung BEE 4 star rated 253 lts model. They will fit in your budget plus they have metallic color which will look better on a black marble flooring. Maintenance and service value wise both LG and Samsung are good. However I have seen that Samsung models are slightly cheaper than LG.

          • Abhishek Jain says:

Also I would not recommend buying it online as at times manufacturers do not give warranty on products sold online. It is much more safer to buy it from an offline store or if you are buying online then buy it from a portal which is manufacturer authorized.

I am planning to buy a double door refrigerator with a capacity of 250lts but confused regarding the brand (Whirlpool or Samsung). Can you please help me out in choosing the right one which helps in less power consumption and long period durability

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Bharathi,

If the choice has to be between Whirlpool and Samsung for capacity of 250 lts then I would suggest that you go for these Samsung models:

      Samsung RT27HARZERY/TL
      or Samsung RT27HDRZESA/TL

  14. Mukul says:

    Hello,

I am looking for a double door refrigerator with 5 star rating, 300 ltr capacity, with minimum maintenance, 15-20 yrs of durability and good chilling efficiency. We have no electrical problems in our area. I am confused between LG, Whirlpool & Samsung. Please suggest…

    • Abhishek Jain says:

There are only 6 refrigerators that are currently rated as BEE 5 star as per latest BEE ratings. Here are those:

S.No Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year)
      1 LG GL-D322RPJZ 310 198
      2 LG GL-D292RSJZ 258 190
      3 LG GL-D322RSJZ 310 198
      4 LG GL-D302RSJZ 285 194
      5 SAMSUNG RT29JDRZFSA/TL 275 195
      6 SAMSUNG RT36JDRZFSL/TL 345 212

Also I want to mention that 15-20 years durability is a bit difficult to get in current times for any appliance. But these refrigerators should surely work well for 10-12 years at least.

      • Mukul says:

Thank You Abhishek for your useful information. I would appreciate if you can help me further. Which company refrigerator would be the best with following specifications, 300-320 ltr capacity, with minimum maintenance (or can say value for money – main concern), at least 10 yrs of durability and good chilling efficiency.
        BEE rating not important.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hello Mr Mukul,

Samsung and LG both should run for 10-12 years. LG would be slightly expensive than Samsung (it is a general observation). But you can go for anyone of them. Both have a large service network in India.

        Hi Abhishek

Thanks for your quick reply. I hope these models are with R-134A refrigent. When i searched for SAMSUNG RT29JDRZFSA/TL, unable to find any info on that.
And also from past 3 days i read about many refrigents. Many refrigerators are available with refrigents like R-600 and R-600A, which they say highly flammable. Really confused which one to buy. Is it OK to buy a refrigerator of any brand with refrigent like R-600 or R-600A. Or do we have to buy with R-134A refrigent(Is R-134A also flammable?). I mean do i need to really worry about refrigent or can buy only based on the other features. Please help to clear my doubts.

        Thanks in Advance,
        Lakshmi

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Lakshmi,

R600A s certainly more flammable as compared to R-134A as R600A is isobutane which is a hydrocarbon. But R134A has more global warming potential as compared to R600A (check page 2 on this link: http://fire.nist.gov/bfrlpubs/build06/PDF/b06043.pdf). If you look at LG’s catalogue http://www.lg.com/in/refrigerators/FF%20Catalogue_Cover.pdf you will find most of the refrigerators are R600A. Samsung also has mostly R600. Currently there are very few brands that have BEE 4 and 5 star FF refrigerators like LG, Samsung and whirlpool. LG and Samsung mostly have R-600A and whirlpool does not provide that information on its specifications. Till now we have not heard of any cases related to R-600A and many people are using it.

    Hi Abhishek,

Thanks for your valuble inputs, I am planning to buy a refregirator for family of two and narrowd down to two models LG GL-M292RLTL and LG GL-B282SLCL, can you please provide your thoughts on them, as I am not able to find any valubl information on them.

Below are the perticular differences I have obsered between them.

    M292RLTL:
    GREEN ION DOOR COOLING
Cooling Technology: Icebeam Door Cooling™ System
    Deodorizer: Catechin

    B282SLCL:
    MULTI AIR FLOW
    Cooling Technology: Multi Airflow
    Deodorizer: Fresherizer with Silver Ions

    Thank You,
    Satish

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Satish,

I would suggest that you go for B282SLCL. That is because it is a newer model and it has more flexible storage specially for bottles. Otherwise the energy consumption and everything else is the same.

  24. gupta says:

Iiwould also like to know if online pur chase of refrigerator is a better option because it is cheaper than the retailer. will i get new products and not seconds.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

I would suggest a few things while buying online:

      1) Make sure that you are buying from big companies like Flipkart, Amazon or Snapdeal.
      2) Ensure that the reviews on the product page are good. Avoid buying something that does not have at least 4-5 reviews.
      3) Make sure that you are getting warranty on the product. At times some products do not have warranty on online purchase. People mention it in reviews if they have faces such problem.
      4) Websites like Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal are like Malls. They do not sell their own product but they have sellers selling their products online. Make sure that the seller has good rating.

      • gupta says:

Thankyou once again . Actually iam planning to buy from Flipkart , but not a single fridge has review. But they are giving warranty..But as they are cheaper, Iam tempted to buy from them.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

I have not heard any complaints about purchase from Flipkart. I would just say check the seller rating for sure.

  25. gupta says:

Sir, I would like to purchase refrigerator of capacity of 350L to 407 L.We saw LG , SAMSUNG, AND PANASONIC. We are slightly confused we prefer LGfor more storage space in refrigerator & Panasonic for upper veg box. Please help in our selection given in the order
    1.for more refrigerator space
2for lesser current cosumption & For durability should run for 10 to 15 yrs
3 should have good after service in chennai
For Panasonic i have heard from the reviews that there is no good afterservice and it makes a lot of noise .I am also doubtful of the lower freezer ,because of the lower position it might become too cold , and the cold air being heavy cannot move upwards, while in the counter parts where there is top freezer the cold air can move from freezer to the lower side of the refrigerator.
Does the lower freezer refrigerator consume more electricity and how does the upper part of tbe refrigerator gets cold

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Gupta,

From an electricity consumption perspective a lower freezer model does not give any benefit over top freezer and in fact it is the opposite that top freezer model are better than bottom freezer. So your understanding is correct.

The refrigerator gets cold because the compressor pushes the refrigerant to the upper part as well to pull out the heat. So it is not that the refrigerator will not get cool in lower freezer. But the amount of energy required to do so will be more.

Here are some models that you can look at between the size range that you are looking for:

      SAMSUNG RT39HDAGESL
      SAMSUNG RT39HDJTESP
      WHIRLPOOL NEO IC375 Royal
      LG GL-P402RPJM
      LG GL-P402RSJM
      LG GL-D402RSHM
      LG GL-D402RPJM
      LG GL-D402RPHM
      LG GL-D402RLJM

These are some of the most energy efficient refrigerators in that size range in the market.

  26. narayanan says:

    Hi,
Which refrigerator is better both in terms of features, efficiency –
    Samsung RT27HARZASP/T 253 L
    LG GL-M292RLTL 258 L

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Narayanan,

Samsung RT27HARZASP is a BEE 3 star rated refrigerator with annual electricity consumption of 303 units a year. LG GL-M292RLTL is a BEE 4 star rated refrigerator with annual electricity consumption of 238 units.

Both are inverter technology refrigerator however if you look at other features Samsung looks better as it has:

      1) Cool Pack to keep freezer cool even during powercuts.
      2) It has adjustable shelves which will make it easier to keep bigger bottles or bigger utensils.

Both of them have bad odour elimination and cooling strength adjustment features. So if energy consumption is a priority then you can go for LG. But if the above two mentioned features look more useful for you the Samsung works better.

  27. shiv says:

RT28FAJYASA samsung refrigerator good to buy ? or any other ? whats its unit consumption?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Shiv,

On Samsung website, RT28FAJYASA shows as BEE 5 star but this model does not appear in BEE’s list for 2014 (http://220.156.189.29/Home/Searchandcompare). So my guess is that it is an old model for which Samsung did not apply for BEE recertification. Now as the data is not available, I cannot provide you the energy consumption number, however if you can find it in any store then you can surely find it on it’s BEE label. However a BEE 5 star model in 2013 will not consume more than BEE 3 star model in 2014. So my guess is that it should be around 320-330 units a year. What is your budget like and what size are you looking for?

  28. Sharma says:

    Sir
I want to buy a Frost Free Refrigerator and I have shortlisted these two models from Samsung,

    SAMSUNG – RT27HAJYASA/TL
    SAMSUNG – RT27JARZESP/TL

Please let me know which is better one for me.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Sharma,

SAMSUNG – RT27JARZESP/TL is a BEE 4 star rated refrigerator. It will consume less electricity. I think you should go for it.

      • sameer kumar says:

        Hi Mr Abhishek,
It was great finding and reading this blog. Thanks for all your inputs. I needed a guidance from you. I had bought a Samsung refrigerator model- RT27HARZASP/TL and there was a problem with the machine so the dealer is offering a exchange. Since the dealer does not have this model any more, he offered me exchange with a few other models which I refused because they were of lower standards and on website they were of lesser cost than my model, so I demanded my money back. Finally they have offered me model no RT27JARZESP and they say that this is a better model with 4 star rating. However to my surprise I could not find the model on the Samsung website and neither did the customer care knew about this model. On informing the dealer, I was told that this model is a 2015 launch and they have not yet uploaded the details on the website. They even did not have the photo and told that they are getting the stock in a day or two and then can show me.
I wanted to ask you if this model RT27JARZESP is actually such a new model that it is not on website and no other website also! (I found your reply to some one regarding this model so I thought to know from you) and secondly is it worth to take this as a replacement for the existing model of mine. (I like it because of the design)
        Regards,
        Sameer

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hello Mr Sameer,

Samsung RT27JARZESP is a BEE 4 star rated model as per BEE’s website http://beestarlabel.com/Home/Searchandcompare . This model was provided BEE 4 star rating on 5th December 2014. So yes it looks like a new model that Samsung got certified recently. However your observation is correct that this model is not there on any other website.

  29. P.Saravanan says:

    Dear Mr. Abhishek,

I plan to buy refrigerator of >550 L capacity and need advise whether to buy LG GC-B207GLQV (Linear invertor) 581L or Samsung
RSA2NQPN1 (digital invertor). 589L . need your advise about the difference between Linear & digital in invertor technology and also which one is best

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Saravanan,

Theoretically a Linear Inverter Compressor is better than a regular Inverter compressor. Linear model reduces some moving parts to save electricity. And because it removes some moving parts, it should also be more durable. However BEE star rating is not done for Side by Side door refrigerators, so it will be difficult for me to give an objective comparison. But as I said, model with Linear Inverter should be better.

Hi sir I am looking for best refrigerator (Double or Triple door) in range 20000 to 40000. I am so confused finding the best. Could you please suggest best refrigerator by energy consumption, star rating, design. Could u please suggest.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Siva,

What is the size of refrigerator that you are looking for (or for how many family members)? Star rating is available only for single and double door refrigerators. It is still not available for triple door refrigerator.

      • Siva Ranjini says:

I have 4 members in ma family. I’m looking mainly for triple door refrigerator. S triple door better dan double door

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi,

There is no data that suggests triple door refrigerators are better than double door or vice versa. However BEE star rating is available only for double door models as BEE has not started rating triple door models. And just because of the star rating, there is lot of innovation and efforts being put to improve double door models. So my recommendation would be to go for double door models. What size (volume) refrigerator are you looking for?

  32. Eddie says:

    Hello Abhishek,

I request your advice for buying a refrigerator. We are a newly married couple, just setting up house in Delhi, both working individuals. We are planning to get a large refrigerator (mid to high 400 litre range), for the following reasons:

    1) Food storage (food may be cooked and stored for a few days, as regular cooking may not be possible even with cook due to time constraint)
    2) For storing frozen foods over a longer time.
    3) To tide over severe delhi summer and winter as required.
    4) For storing fresh fruits, vegetables etc for a longer period.

With that in mind, we want a fridge with following factors in mind :

    – Large freezer
    – High energy efficiency
    – Avoiding gimmicks like water dispenser
    – Good after sale service

We have narrowed down to the following models:

    – LG GL-M542GPHM (495 LITRES)
    – LG GL-M522GSHM (470 LITRES)
    – Samsung RT60KZRSL1 (496 litres)
    – Samsung RT55KZRSL (447 litres)
    – Hitachi R-V540PND3KX-(GGR) Big2 Stylish Door Series (489L)
Request you to provide any comments/ suggestions that your may have in this regard to help us choose a fridge.

    Many thanks!

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Eddie,

You have selected all BEE 4 star rated refrigerators, so they all are highly energy efficient. I would suggest that you go for a refrigerator as small as possible in which you can manage your work. Because when one goes for bigger sized refrigerator then s/he ends up storing everything possible in the refrigerator which is not good for electricity/energy consumption as everything kept in the refrigerator requires cooling and every additional stuff kept in it increases the load. And empty refrigerator also does not use resources efficiently. As far as brand is concerned, Japanese brands have more reliability/durability so if Hitachi has good after sales service in your area, I would suggest going for that.

    Hello Sir,
I would like to purchase a new refrigerator. We are vegetarians and our family comprises of three adults and two children. I am looking for a low power consuming and efficient model with good servicing facility in Visakhapatnam. Please suggest me a good model friz which will cater my needs.

    Thanking you in anticipation.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

What is the size you are looking for? Also what is your expected budget?

      • prasad says:

        Sir,
friz size of 240 litre approx with budget around 22k. Please also suggest me whether I have to go for single door or double door and the advantages / disadvantages thereon.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

Single Door Refrigerators have manual defrost. So you need to switch off the refrigerator periodically to remove ice accumulated around the freezer. In Frost Free (double door) model ice does not accumulate around the freezer. The number of models in frost free (double door) are less in sub 250 lts size. And number of models in single door are less in above 250 lts size. From electricity saving point of view the new inverter technology refrigerator is the best and is available only in double door models. If you are looking for double door models then you can look at these:

LG GL-M292RLTL (BEE 4 star market price about Rs23K)
          SAMSUNG RT27HAJMASE/TL (BEE 3 star)
          SAMSUNG RT27HARZASP/TL (BEE 3 star)
          SAMSUNG RT27HARZABX/TL (BEE 3 star)

These will fit in your budget, will be energy efficient and would be good for you.

  34. john says:

I have a fridge of 528 litres (Samsung RT56H667ESL) which consumes 318 units / per year. We travel often leaving the refrigerator on. I was thinking of buying another small fridge 250 litres). When we are traveling we can turn the big refrigerator off and move the essential things to the smaller fridge.

However when I went to buy a small fridge I saw that even the small fridge consumes approx 250-270 units per year. Hence I thought there are hardly any savings in electricity and it might not be worth it to buy a second fridge. Am I correct ?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi John,

I do not think you will be able to recover your investment by buying a small fridge. The smallest of single door fridges consume about 250-270 units per year as you have noticed. New double door refrigerators with inverter tech are more efficient, but they are expensive. And if you buy them just as an alternative to your bigger fridge to save electricity, then you will not be able to recover your cost. For e.g LG GL-D322RPJZ a 310 l model has energy consumption of 198 units/year. But then it would cost you about 30K. And it will take quite sometime to recover 30K investment if you use it occasionally.

    Hello sir,

I am planning to purchase a single door refrigerator with capacity varying between 210 to 240 ltrs. Which brand and model is the best in terms of power economy and efficiency with good service facility in Visakhapatnam. Earlier, I have used 165 ltr Whirlpool refrigerator of 1998 model and recently my power bills were abnormally increased and it has been sorted out that the friz is consuming more power. Hence, I would like to go for a new friz.

purchase the F.A.T.L.Washing machine of LG Co. Model No. T8048TEEL 3 as suggested by you and the other one WF-T8019PV.

Pl.suggest me the best amoung above two models as I am confused. Pl. tell me the difference in simple language to understand
    it fully.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Kuchhal,

WF-T8019PV has iSensor that detects water hardness/temperature and accordingly determines the amount of detergent to be used as well as the best washing and rinsing mode.

T8048TEEL3 has jet spray which is kind of pressure wash. It will pressure wash the cloths while rinsing and thus it will give better wash quality.

If you have hard water in your area then the first one would be better. But otherwise the second one would be better in cleaning.

I want to buy a Frost Free Refrigerator and I have narrowed down to these two models from Samsung:
    RT36FDJFABX
    RT36FDJFASL
I dont find any differences between them except the formaer having 1 Ice Box and the latter having 2.
The former has a beautiful black flowery design which I like and is almost 2k cheaper than the latter.

I want it to be long lasting with minimal maintenance. It should have good cooling capacity. Please let me know which is better for me.Also suggest alternatives from other brands with the same capabilities like the above ones.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Kaushik,

What are the things that you are looking for so that I can suggest which one is better for you? Samsung is offering 10 years warranty on its inverter tech compressors. However bare minimum maintenance is required for every refrigerator.

      • Kaushik Das says:

        Hello Abhishek,

        Thanks for your reply.

        My requirements are:

        1) It should have excellent cooling capabilities (Frost Free) and ample space for esp. vegetables and prepared dishes and other stuff (>340L).Should make ice very quickly.
2)It should be highly energy efficient and saving since it will be running all day.I prefer the Digital Inverter Compressor ones.It must be BEE 5 star rated according to the 2014 standards.
        3) It should be able to prevent spoilage of food and frozen food in case of long power cuts and should be stable during voltage spikes.I dont want to use an additional Voltage stabilizer.
4)It should be very good looking.
5)It should be long lasting, good build quality with minimal maintenance and excellent performance.Compressor should be hardy.
6)There should be good after sales service with the 10 year warranty like Samsung.
        7)Budget is max 38k.

The Samsung RT36FDJFABX meets almost all of my requirements. So if you think it fits my requirements, please give me go ahead or if think otherwise please let me know the alternative.

The other model which I shortlisted,is it better than this?

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Kaushik,

Firstly I must say that there are hardly 4 refrigerators that appear as BEE 5 star in BEE’s list as per 2014 standards. You can check the database on this link: http://220.156.189.29/Home/Searchcompare . And all of them are from LG and of size 310 lts and less. Below is the list of 4 star rated refrigerators that I got that are 340 lts +, less than 38K price and with inverter technology compressor:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Storage Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year) Star Rating Market Price
          SAMSUNG RT36HDJFELX/TL 345 322 265 4 37586
          SAMSUNG RT36HDRYESA/TL 345 322 265 4 35800
          SAMSUNG RT36HDRZESP/TL 345 322 265 4 37000
          SAMSUNG RT36HDRZESL/TL 345 322 265 4 37500
          LG GL-D402RLJM 360 327 256.85 4 37350

LG model specifically says that it has stabilizer free operation, however Samsung does not explicitly says that. However most refrigerators in market today have stabilizer free operation. So you can confirm with Samsung before buying (you can chat with their online support and ask about specific model). All these models have 10 years warranty.

As for power cuts, there are two type of technologies available: 1) That keeps only the freezer cool during power cuts. In LG it is called Durachill. Samsung calls it coolpack. 2) That keeps the whole refrigerator cool during power cuts. Again in LG it is called powercut ever cool. Please make sure that the model has what you want.

the goods comparatively to Double door fridge which are having a large numbers of complaints, low long life & low space of the same litres.

These 300 litres & above upto 360 Lit. fridges as per my knowlege available in whirlpool & Godrej at present.

I am confused now. Pl. suggest me which one will be the best ” Single door or Double door” as at our new house there no problem of

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Kucchal,

I would recommend going for double door models because there are very few options available in single door and they too are not as energy efficient as double door models with inverter technology. Agreed that you get more space to keep in single door, but there is inconvenience of manually defrosting it periodically. What is your budget for the refrigerator?

      • ASHOK KUCHHAL, D-16, Ist Floor, Ashoka Road, Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. says:

my budget is from Rs.19k to Rs.45k. As I survey the market there is a lot of difference of rates between single door & double door fridge
in the same litres. Kindly arrange to explain me in detail keeping in view of all & other factors which are in your mind.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hello Mr Kuchhal,

Inverter technology compressor is good for keeping food fresh for long, but that is just one point. In double door the additional benefit is that you do not have to switch off the refrigerator periodically for defrosting and ice will never accumulate around the freezer. Now I did do some data analysis and I found that there are only 3 single door refrigerators between 300-360 lts that are BEE 5 star. Their storage volume is lesser than that of the double door models of similar size. Also their electricity consumption is more than even the BEE 4 star rated double door models. Here is some data:

          LG GL-D322RPJZ 310 283 198 5 36590 Frost Free

Now LG, Samsung and Whirlpool are the only brands that have BEE 4/5 star rated double door refrigerators. Whirlpool does not have inverter technology, but their compressor + 6th sense technology are good to keep their energy consumption low. Samsung and LG have inverter technology compressor.

Thanks a lot for technically guiding me. Please arrange to suggest me the top best 2 or 3 model No. in 360 liters
Refrigerator with its features with the price range of Rs.45000/- of LG Co.

          • Abhishek Jain says:

If you have power cuts problem then you can look at these two (technology is same just the design is different):

            LG GL-P402RPJM and GL-P402RSJM

else you can look at (again the technology is same and just the design is different):

            LG GL-D402RSHM or GL-D402RPJM or GL-D402RPHM or GL-D402RLJM

The price difference in the models is only for design. They will cost you anywhere between 38K and 42K.

Hi Sir, I want to buy a double door refrigerator & I have shortlisted models for the items below.

    1. SAMSUNG – RT27HAJMASE/TL
    2. SAMSUNG – RT27HAJYASA/TL
    3. SAMSUNG – RT26FAJYASA/TL

Which one is better, Kindly suggest me…

  46. harish says:

    hi abhishek
i would like to buy whirlpool pro 415 elite 410L model can u suggest advatages and disadvatages on it.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Harish,

Whirlpool is a good brand and they have efficient models but whirlpool pro 425 elite 410L is a BEE 3 star rated model. I would not say that it is a bad model, but there are better models with inverter technology compressor and higher star ratings. It has 6th sense technology which is good, but not as good as inverter technology in keeping food fresh for long as well as saving electricity.

  47. Simpson says:

Hello Abhishek Jain, Kindly provide input on Whirlpool 240 L 3 Door Refrigerator – FP 263D Protton Royal Steel Knight.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Simpson,

As 3 door refrigerators are not rated by BEE, so I cannot comment much on its energy efficiency. Had it been an inverter technology compressor (which it is not), then still there would have been some surety on efficiency. But right now all I can say is that Whirlpool does have efficient refrigerators in BEE 3 and 4 star rated category in 2 door category (although not all). It’s 6th sense technology is quite good and Whirlpool is a good brand in general (quite reliable and has good service).

      • Simpson says:

Thanks for the feedback Abhishek, would you suggested any other brand with 3 doors in the same price range?

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hi Simpson,

This kind of 3 door model is not available in most brands that offer inverter tech refrigerators. LG has such models however the compressor is not inverter tech and in that case I would prefer this whirlpool model. So if you are keen on going for this kind of model, then Whirlpool is the only brand that you can go for.

  48. Debasis Bandyopadhyay says:

Thanks Abhishek , For Ur Feedback , But What About GODREJ which is also giving 10yr RUST Free Warranty

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Bandyopadhyay,

Godrej models are not rated high on energy efficiency. You may have to pay more on electricity bills if you go for them.

  49. Debasis Bandyopadhyay says:

    Hi Abhishek ,

Planning to Buy Double Door Frost Free Refrigerator (Green Gas) , Lots of Power Cut is there , 240 – 270 Ltr , Budget Around 25K , Pls Suggest.

10 Yr Compressor Guarantee from Godrej is one of the Reason to go for it Or LG

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Bandyopadhyay,

It is better to go for LG as it has more energy efficient options. You should look at LG GL-P292RPJL. It will be quite good for you. LG is also giving 10 years compressor warranty.

  50. Krishna Kumar says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I’m looking to buy Bosch Refrigerator(Serie | 6 KDN46AI50I). They don’t have a BEE rating it seems. Is it good to buy Bosch? Your view please.

    Thanks,
    Krishna

    • Krishna Kumar says:

my big doubt is LG (lg-GL-M472GLJM) Vs Bosch (Serie | 6 KDN46AI50I). What do you prefer?. Thanks again

      • Abhishek Jain says:

LG GL-M472GLJM is a BEE 4 star rated model while the Bosch model is BEE 2 star rated. I would say LG GL-M472GLJM.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Krishna Kumar,

Bosch 6 KDN46AI50I is a BEE 2 star rated refrigerator as per BEE data. I would suggest going for a refrigerator with higher energy efficiency. Bosch currently has only BEE 2 star rated refrigerators in Indian market. It is a good brand globally, but they should bring more efficient refrigerators in Indian market.

  51. Asif says:

    Dear Mr. Abhishek,

Thanks for the awesome job you are doing. Its very helpful for us in knowing the companies and the services.
I am planning to buy LG GL-C282RPCL. what do you think of this Model and do u think is there anything better compare to this model at this range?

    Thanks in Advance

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Asif,

LG GL-C282RPCL is a good model: BEE 4 star with inverter technology compressor. It is amongst the top most efficient models. The brand is also very good. I think you should go for it.

      • Asif says:

        Thanks for your prompt response.
Kindly compare LG GL-C282RPCL with LG GL-M292RLTL for best refrigerator.
P.S.# Lg website doesnt shows Gl-C282RPCL has Powercut Evercool function while the Agents are saying it has Powercut Evercool function.
I will buy as soon as you confirm the best among them.
        Thanks

        • Abhishek Jain says:

LG GL-M292RLTL does not have power cut evercool. LG GL-C282RPCL has durachill which keeps just the freezer cool during power cuts. You can look at LG GL-P292RPJL which has same efficiency levels but also has power cut evercool that keeps both freezer as well as refrigerator section cool for 7 hours.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi,

50 inch or 1270 mm is too small height for most latest refrigerators. I am not able to find anything less than 1400 mm which is energy efficient. Can there be 6-8 inch space created to adjust a new refrigerator?

  55. Ishan says:

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Ishan,

As you are happy with LG and LG certainly has the most energy efficient refrigerators, I would suggest you to look at these:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year) Star Rating Approx Market Price

    Hi Abhishek,

I have almost finalized Hitachi R-VG660PND3 and need to buy it in offer tomorrow. But really worried about Hitachis long term ownership, A.S.S and maintenance service. Since I live in Delhi, it might be better than other areas. Please suggest at earliest.

    Thanks,
    Ankit

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Ankit,

Your local dealers and other people who have the experience with the brand will be the best to tell you about Hitachi’s after sales service in your local area. Getting local feedback will be most important as the service quality varies from place to place. Personally all I can say is that we have a Hitachi refrigerator in Noida and the service has been ok for us.

    Dear Sir

We are looking for refrigerators in 500+ litre capacity. We are vegetarians and looking for more fridge area than freezer area.Which fridge would you recommend. Also let me know how is Videocon side by side fridge and how does it compare with LG and Samsung.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Subramanian,

You can look any of these refrigerators:

      LG GR-B812GSPH
      LG GR-B772GSPH
      SAMSUNG RT56H6679SL
      SAMSUNG RT54H6679SL

Videocon refrigerators are not as high in energy savings as LG and Samsung.

  60. Sree says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I have ordered LG GL-D292RPJL but just came across the model GL-P292RPJL. How different are these 2?
There is a price difference of 2500 between these 2 but could not understand the difference. Former says GREEN ION DOOR COOLING while P292RPJL is 4-WAY COOLING. D292RPJL is DURACHILL while P292RPJL is Power Cut Evercool. Deodorizer in D292RPJL is Catechin while P292RPJL is Fresherizer with Silver Ions.
Should i cancel my order for D292RPJL and go for P292RPJL?

  61. Nikesh Agarwal says:

    Hi Abhishek,

I wanted ur suggestion on side by side refrigerators of 500-600 lts. I am looking at LG and Samsung. We are a family of 4 and my budget is around 80K. Can you suggest me best model fitting this description. My primary concern is stability and longetivity.

A quick response will be really appreciated.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Nikesh,

Firstly I must say 500-600 lts is huge for a family of 4. You will end up using refrigerator more like an almirah and that will result in huge electricity consumption. If you still want to go for such size then you can look at Samsung RT56H667ESL or RT54H667ESL. Or any Hitachi model that has inverter technology.

  62. Aasif Ahmed says:

    Hi Abhishek!
Its a great effort from you in running this blog which is of tremendous use to many. I have question for you…Please advise the difference between Samsung refrigerators RT54H667ESL & RT54H6679SL? Is there a difference in performance & features?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Aasif,

Samsung RT54H667ESL is a BEE 4 star rated model, whereas RT54H6679SL is BEE 3 star. So RT54H6679SL will consume more electricity. Features wise both look very similar.

  63. Anonymous says:

    Hi,

I am looking for a side-by-side refrigerator and after doing the required field survey have finally pinned down to two brands i.e. Hitachi & LG.But at the back of my mind I have few questions before investing the huge sum.

    1. Is side-by-side refrigerators a sucess in Indian homes or would you still suggest me the orthodox 2-Door/3Door option? My family strength is 4.
    2. Do you suggest me any other brand or model number apart from LG – GC-B207GPQV 581Ltrs & HITACHI – R-WB550PND2-(GS) 510Ltrs?

    Best Regards,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Das,

Several people in India purchase side-by-side refrigerators. There is no reason for it to be unsuccessful in India. However currently the bureau of energy efficiency is not rating side-by-side refrigerators on energy efficiency and thus manufacturers are not publishing the energy consumption data for side-by-side. So there is no data to make objective comparison. Comparison can be made only for 2 door models.

However between LG – GC-B207GPQV and HITACHI – R-WB550PND2-(GS) all I can say is that LG’s inverter linear compressor should be more durable and efficient than regular inverter compressor. Linear compressor has less moving parts and thus chances of failure are reduced significantly. And thus I would rate the LG model higher than Hitachi model.

  64. Rajesh Menon says:

    I want to buy a single door 215L refrigerator, i have chosen Whirlpool 230 ICEMAGIC ROY 5S 215 and LG GL-225BNDE5 215 L .
Given that both are BEE 5* and leaving aside the electricity consumption, which one do you think is good. (For Space, cooling system, deforst, life etc.)

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Both have exact similar specifications and features. Its a tough call. You should go by your brand preference. By the way both do not have auto defrost as they are single door models. You will have to do manual defrost.

      • Rajesh Menon says:

But Whirlpool 230 ICEMAGIC ROY 5S 215 claims to be auto deforst (No need to defrost your refrigerator ever.) in there website!!!
There is no specification of auto-defrost in LG.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hello Mr Menon,

Is this the link you are talking about? http://www.whirlpoolindia.com/refrigerator/single-door/230_icemagic_royal_5s

  65. S Gopal says:

Hello Abhishek, your lucid writing helped me on my research for purchasing a refrigerator in the 200-300 L category. I was interested specially in Samsung 275 Ltr RT28FAJSAWX/TL Double Door Refrigerator Orchery Coral White . It mentions that it is 5 star with DIC with refrigerant R-600A. Is this refrigerant usually used in most refrigerators in India? There was a scare of using this refrigerant in the US owing to its explosive nature once it leaks out. Is it on par in terms of its danger to other refrigerants or is this refrigerant potentially more unsafe than the usual refrigerants in the market? Apart from the refrigerant issue, would you recommend the product? Apart from this model could you recommend any other model which has a digital inverter in the aforementioned capacity range.
    In anticipation of a response,
    Best,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Gopal,

R-600 is a hydrocarbon (isobutane) which certainly is flammable. Manufacturers using this refrigerant should take great care in safety of the model.

As for the model, it does not appear in the latest BEE database as 5 star, and there are very few BEE 5 star models currently as per 2014 ratings. So I would not recommend this product. However you can look at these models:

LG GL 245 BSGA5 235 is a 235 lts refrigerator with yearly electricity consumption of 256 units. Whirlpool 230 Fusion Royal 5S 215 litres consumes 266 units a year. Without comparing features and purely from electricity consumption and efficiency point of view, LG GL 245 BSGA5 235 is better.

Is this BEE 4 star model ?

    Thanks in Advance.

    Regards,
    Ramesh R

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Ramesh,

BEE has not yet started rating three door and multi door models. So it does not have a BEE star rating. So cannot comment on the energy rating of the model. However Whirlpool in general has good efficient double door models with 6th sense technology.

  71. Aruna says:

    Hi,

We have a space for refrigerator that is 25x62x25inches (WxHXD)- It is covered by walls on sides and from above by furniture.
Which refrigerator model, you will suggest(considering the ventilation need) ? What is your opinion about LG model GLM302RLTLPZ.
We are looking for double door n There are 4 members in my family.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello,

LG GLM302RLTL is a BEE 4 star rated refrigerator with inverter technology and certainly amongst the best in that size range. You can certainly go for it. Just make sure that it fits in the specification. The dimensions of the model are: 23x62x27 (WxHxD). You will need some inches space around the refrigerator for it to release heat else no refrigerator will work properly.

  72. Huzefa Kagdi says:

    Hi Abhishek,

Thanks a lot for the information that you have provided in the article. We are looking for a refrigarator between 240-280 litres. We have shortlisted the following options.

    Whirpool FP 283D ROYAL(260 Ltr)
    LG GL-B282SLCL

Could you please suggest us which is the better of the two as per your experience? Plus you can also suggest us if you are aware of anything better in that same range.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

LG GL-B282SLCL is a BEE 4 star rated refrigerator with inverter technology. Inverter Technology is the best in terms of energy efficiency and keeping the food fresh for long. You can certainly go for it.

I wish to buy a new automatic washing machine. There are so many brands in the market like IFB, LG, VIDEOCON,
SAMSUNG, WHIRLPOOL ETC. I am already using the Videocon Semi automatic washingmachine for the past 15 years
successfully with a very few complaints.

Now my young children are suggesting me to purchase fully Automatic W.Machine for new home. But on the otherhand I am
listening frequently complaint in Fully Automatic machine specially in IFB & WHIRLPOOL & a few one with LG & SAMSUNG,
moreover poor customer care services rendered by these Cos’. & charging very high prices.

Kindly again help me which type of W.machine (Model No.& manufacturer) I should purchase which will be very low
maintenance expenses & effecient in working with long life. I belongs to a middle class family & cannot afford repeated
    regular maintenance expenses.

    1. Uploader OR
    2. Front loader
    3. With Heater OR
    4. Without heater
    OR
    Again Semi Automatic

    Please suggest me the best.

    Thanks

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Kuchhal,

I would suggest that you go for a top loader without a heater. Hot water improves wash quality, but it comes at additional cost (extra cost for buying + extra cost of electricity) for marginal improvement in wash quality. Hot water wash is really good if you have very small kids in your house. And in that case (if you use hot water) it is better to go for front load. But I guess that is not the case with you and thus would suggest top loader washing machine.

A few models of top loaders I have observed are very good: Panasonic model with Saznami drum and Aquabeat wash, LG model with turbodrum and iSensor and Samsung model with Diamond Drum and Active Wash. A 6.2 kg model of any of these would cost about 16K.

          Hello Mr Kuchhal,

You should look at these models:

          Panasonic NA-F70H5
          Whirlpool 360 Bloomwash
          or LG T8048TEEL3

          • ASHOK KUCHHAL, D-16, Ist Floor, Ashoka Road, Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. says:

Thanks a lot. Whirlpool 360 bloomwash is having the complaints as mentioned by a client at your another website of Top ten fully
automatic washing machines. One of the client at yr same website suggested not to go for Direct drive F.W.M. Are pulsolator based
F.W.M. good? Now I am confuged & not in a position to technically understand it.

Finally tell me the best in 6.5kg or 7kg alongwith the model No.,Its features & Price for a family of 4 or 5 keeping in view of washing
of winter season clothes like woollen, Blankets & carpets etc. as we are living in Delhi keeping in view of my above enquiry.

          • Abhishek Jain says:

            Hello Mr Kuchhal,

There will be one off complaints for each and every model that is out there in the market. Also I typically try to look at technology + brand while recommending. Unless there are many complaints about a specific brand, I do not exclude the same in my recommendations. Also even in that case (of multiple complaints) I do try to mention the top models with a note that there are some complaints. But it will be unfair to remove a suggestion on one single complaint. As for Direct Drive washing machine, I have one in my extended family and I have seen it working fine without problems. But it is very much possible that some people might get issues (it happens with every model/brand). Also I did not tell you front load washing machines, in fact I told you only top load washing machines (as you asked for it). LG T8048TEEL3 is a top load and is not a direct drive model.

All the models I suggested are pulsator based model and they are much better than agitator based model. Front load washing machines work differently. They have a rotating drum and because of the rotation, the action is similar to hitting the cloths on a stone for cleaning (old styled :) ). Cleaning is slightly better in front load washing machines, but their cleaning cycles are longer (as they use less water) and thus their electricity consumption is more.

If you want to go for front load washing machine (and you do not want to go for LG direct drive), then you can look at models from Panasonic, Bosch and Siemens. Panasonic is a great brand that offers quality with energy efficiency. Bosch and Siemens are great in quality but their energy efficiency levels are lower than panasonic models. For heavy cloths, front loading washing machine would be better.

          • ASHOK KUCHHAL, D-16, Ist Floor, Ashoka Road, Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. says:

you have suggested to purchase the LG or Panasonic model. As far as LG T8048 TEEL3 model is conceren,
I think it is not having the features of I Sensor, Pulsator & Acqua Reserve as information provided by the company
on internet. Pl. again suggest me the best. Is LG7018AEEP 5 is best. However there is high price difference of
Rs.10000/-approx. Will it be in my benefit to purchase such a costly model for the middle class family.

            Thanks,

            ASHOK KUCHHAL

          • Abhishek Jain says:

LG7018AEEP has direct drive motor and that is why it is expensive. Direct Drive is their latest technology which does not use gearbox/transmission belt. The motor directly transfers the power to the drum. This results in increased energy efficiency, reduced noise and longer life (as lot of moving parts are eliminated). I have heard complaints from people about the transmission of their washing machines failing. This technology removes the transmission system completely. (read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_drive_mechanism).

Now if it benefits you or not, only time can tell. A lot will depend on your usage. If your usage is high then the wear and tear will happen fast for a regular washing machine with transmission. If your usage is low, then it won’t. As far as energy efficiency benefits are concerned, the electricity consumption of washing machines are so low that a price difference of Rs 10000 will never have payback unless you are running a laundry.

I am so much confused which make/brand of refrigrator I should purchase because there are so many companies like L.G, Whirlpool, Hitachi, Sharp,
Kelvinator and Electrolax. One of the showroom says sharp company Model No : SJPK45MSL 400Lit. Black Body is the best having the features of
    1. Bacteria and Foul Odor Free (Fungus Free In Hindi “FUIE” nahi lage-ge) 2. Keep the Food, Vegetable, Fruits & milk products Freshness and
Nutrition for long period. 3. Leave no harmfull gas and can be installed inside the lobby 4. Plasma Facility. But the model is two star with a electricity
consumption is 448 unit per year (If plasma facility keeps off then the electircity bill will be 270 unit per year). The same facility is in the Hitachi also,
Whereas the someone are saying L.G is the best and other says Hitachi, Whirlpool and so on. My budget range is Rs.30,000 to Rs.45,000.

Are above noted facilities runs efficiently and smoothly for a longer period without any damage OR total imaginary.

Please suggest me which brand/make of refrigerator I should purchase keeping in view of electicity consumption and above noted other facilities.

Going for inverter technology refrigerator is better and so I would say that look at LG and Samsung.

      • ASHOK KUCHHAL, D-16, Ist Floor, Ashoka Road, Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. says:

Thanks a lot for giving me the valuable information. I think your total attention is focused on saving of electricity keeping in view of the
models mentioned in your reply. You have not replied the model of sharp company mentioned in my question which is having such
types of features(mentioned in my question) which other companies like whirlpool, L.G,& Samsung are not having. Are these features
available in the models mentioned by you. If available,Pl.mention again. Are these features really important in our life or negligible.
        Pl. suggest me in detail.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hello Mr Kuchhal,

Sharp has a plasmacluster ion technology which they claim helps eliminate bacteria and bad odour. Other brands also have similar technologies, like LG has Green Ion Door technology & Samsung has Anti Bacteria Technology. Secondly the models from LG and Samsung I mentioned above have inverter technology compressor, which not only saves electricity, but also maintains the temperature properly and consistently which is far better to keep food (fruits and vegetables) fresh for long. As for harmful gas: most of these energy efficient refrigerators come with eco friendly refrigerants (gasses). You can specifically look at these models:

          LG GL-D402RPHM
          LG GL-D402RLJM
          LG GL-D402RPJM
          LG GL-D402RSHM

Samsung models listed above also have deodorising filter to remove bad smell, but I am not sure if they have Anti Bacterial Filter. Most of these features are good to improve air quality inside the refrigerator. It is good to have them in the long run.

    Hi Abhishek,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your website which gives a valuable details about refrigerator. Your service is highly appreciable.

I am a starter, i am looking now to buy a new refrigerator for my family. We are three in our family. Our requirement is a refrigerator which should have low electricity consumption and would have good feature. Also bit confused with single door or double door.

Could you suggest the good one for me please ?

    Thanks in Advance

    ~ Ramesh Ragavan.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Ramesh,

The difference between single door and double door models is their defrost capability. Single door models have manual defrost, which means ice accumulates around the freezer and you need to switch it off periodically to remove it. Whereas in double door models the ice does not accumulate around the freezer. Another major difference these days is that inverter technology which is most electricity saving is available only in double door and not in single door. However if you are going for sub 250 lts refrigerator it is better to go for single door model and if you are going for over 250 lts model then it is better to go for double door.

The size of refrigerator would depend on your family’s needs. Its always better to not use refrigerator as another storage space (or almirah) and thus it is better to buy the smallest that works for your needs. For a family of 3 I guess about 200 lts refrigerator should be good. However you are the best judge for that. Let me know the size you need and I can suggest you some models.

      • Ramesh Ragavan says:

Thanks Abhishek for your quick reply and suggestion.

I just had a quick analysis and spoke to my partner and we decide to go double door in the size of 200 to 250 lts. Because we are mainly looking for energy saving and considering size will require in future.

Could you suggest some refrigerator with auto defrost, antibacterial/antifungal properties, easy to clean and maintain.

        ~ Ramesh.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Ananth,

If Godrej makes more noise then you should be able to compare that in a shop. Also if samsung releases more heat then it should show up in its energy efficiency numbers or BEE star rating. Shopkeepers give their opinion based on individual instances or at time they also provide their opinions based on the brand they want to sell. However if you are still not convinced then you can look at these models that are most energy efficient models of 190 lts:

      Whirlpool 205 FUSION ROYAL 5S
      LG GL-205XADE5, GL-205XFDE5, GL-205XFGE5, GL-205KAGE5

  88. Siddharth says:

    Hi Everyone!
Well, this is Siddharth from Kolkata.
I was using my whirlpool refrigerator (GNF220x) for more than 15-16 years and it did not have any problem. My monthly bill used to be unusually high. Suddenly after years I though to find out why, and then found out that the old refrigerator is the culprit and it takes almost (7amps at startup) and steady current of around 1.2 Amps at 230 Volts, making it a gadget of something like 276 watts, and I found out that it worked for around 23 hours per day, making me pay for 2317 kWh (ie; 2317 Units per year, Yes you read it right! It was of a conventional compressor and with that age I thought it was of no use to get it serviced as I really wanted a CHANGE, this change means change in the power consumption). Like, many of you even I had gone through a dilemma to choose the correct refrigerator as per my need, I made up my mind to go for only inverter based digital compressor refrigerator, somehow I liked the Samsung refrigerator more. Samsung RT29HARZERY, I just went for it.

BEE 3star rated Samsung RT29HARZERY inverter, it claims to consume 305 units per year as per standard BEE conditions.
I knew, or rather had belief that it might consume even 30% more electricity under normal usage, and made up my mind that, its still fine even if consumes 400 units per year as my earlier frost-free one was consuming more than 2300 units per year.

I tested the current consumption of my new refrigerator, found it to be around 0.5 amps at around 230 volts.
I was sure that it would decrease within some time or rather few days.

After 5-6 days of usage, I tested several times and found almost the result consistent.
Today also I checked and found it to be 0.156 Amps at 228.6 Volts.
Indicating it a load of just 35.6616 watts!!
that means when used for 24×7, 365 days, it would consume just 312.39 units.

I know this result can vary with seasons, but it is going to be more or less consistent.

I’m stunned to see this result.

BEE Claims 305 units per year for this Samsung RT29HARZERY
My test indicated that it would consume 312.39~ 312 units!!
Percentange of accuracy is 97.75%!!! (almost 98% accurate result)

P.S.: I’m really thankful to Abhishek jain for all the suggestions.
All the forums are very informative.
    Keep it up Bijlibachao!

  89. Thiagarajan says:

Hello Abishek sir, After checking details, I thought LG 4 STAR rating 310L GL-D322RPJL is good. But also observed that the next power cut cool model GL-P322RPJL, we need to spend approx. Rs 3500 extra. But whether its worth spending that amount considering the temperature is maintained in Refrigerator section also along with Freezer section? in that case any power savings will be there, once the fridge is restarted after power cuts?
Please advise whether should we go for GL-P322RPJL or GL-D322RPJL, considering the difference of Rs 3500 after ignoring the money spending factor.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Thiagarajan,

If your area gets regular power cuts then power cut ever cool model is better because it will keep the food safe. Restarting of compressor will not have high impact, but if the power cut is long and the refrigerator is not kept at optimal temperature, the food may not be safe. So if you have power cuts then it is safer to go for the model with power cut evercool and the difference will be worth for food safety and not for electricity bills.

Hi Abhishek, Looking for refrigerator between 400 and 500 ltrs with 10 years compressor warranty. Were not able to find a comparative chart between sizes of freezer and remaining regular portion. We are vetarians and look for lesser freezer space.

      • Abhishek Jain says:

        Hello Mr Mukundan,

LG and Samsung give 10 year compressor warranty. Now LG does not mention sizes of refrigerator and freezer, but Samsung does. So I can just give comparative freezer refrigerator ratio of Samsung models in that range. You can look at these models:

Brand Model Gross Volume Freezer Refrigerator Refrigerator Freezer Ratio
        SAMSUNG RT42HAUDEGL 401 101 300 2.97
        SAMSUNG RT42HDAGESL 415 113 302 2.67
        SAMSUNG RT49H567ESL 481 132 349 2.64
        SAMSUNG RT47H567ESL 462 132 330 2.5

Hi, I am looking for a refrigerator for 4-5 people, with 250-350 litre capacity (preferably, lesser freezer space as in single door and more space for vegetable/other stuff) and it can be single or double door, best star rating, frost free/cyclic and priced between 15k – 25k.

    Regards,
    Prabakar..

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Prabhakar,

Here are some models that you can look at:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year) Star Rating Market Price Type
      GODREJ RT EON 260 P 3.3 260 315 3 24888 Frost Free

      LG GL-M292RLTL 258 238 4 23500 Frost Free

Now single door models are direct cool models. They do not have automatic defrost and ice has to be removed manually by switching off the refrigerator.

Double door models are frost free models that have automatic defrost.

Single door models may have more space for vegetables, but the drawback is no auto defrost.

Hi Abhishek, Thanks for very useful informations in this website.
Please help me with following queries-
    1) This is my first time usage & purchase. I need a refrigerator for a family of 3 people. Max 258 ltr capacity.
    2) Automatic defrost, preferably LG brand, 10yr warranty, lower power consumption
    3) Not sure whether to buy single door or double door. whether the cost difference of appx 10k requires any compromises with a Automatic defrost single door fridge??
    4) which features are important for using the refrigerator to store Fish/sea food properly. Does double door refrigerators offer any advantage here?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi,

You can look at any of these models:

      SAMSUNG RT27HDRZESA/TL
      LG GL-D292RPJL
      LG GL-E292RPTL
      LG GL-M292RATL
      LG GL-M292RLTL
      LG GL-P292RPJL

Single door models do not have automatic defrost. Double door models have automatic defrost. The models above are all double door. As for features for freezer you should look at models with durachill or cooling pack that can keep the freezer cool even during power cuts.

    Hi Abhishek,
Two weeks back, purchased a Whirlpool IC275 Deluxe Refrigerator(262 Ltr).It is not cooling properly. Some Issues. Engineer came, changed the timer. But still not cooling properly. We all are fade up. Things kept inside are getting spoiled. What to do ? Is it possible to get a replacement or another model of whirlpool or a samsung or LG. But I am not happy with my purchase. We feel cheated. The Fridge is still not functioning properly. We have stopped keeping things in fridge as it gets spoiled

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Sanjay,

You would have certainly got warranty on the product that you purchased. The company should fix it if there is a problem and should get it to you in a working condition. The return will depend on the return/refund policy of the place from where you purchased it. I would suggest that you check with the store from where you purchased it.

    Hi,
I am planning to buy a refrigerator for my home. We are a family of 5 adults. A good friend of my told me its better to invest in a LG refrigerator than Samsung/Whirlpool but above all Hitachi refrigerators are the best if it comes to over all long term performance/electricity saving. Now I am confused. Which brand/refrigerator would you suggest me?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

LG and Samsung have good efficient options with inverter technology compressor. However Hitachi and Panasonic also have it but in bigger sizes. It truly depends on what size refrigerator you want to buy. Size of refrigerator will depend on you lifestyle. What size refrigerator are you thinking of buying?

    Dear Abhishek,

I have a space which is 2 feet wide and 5 feet high – it is covered on both sides (by wall and woodwork) and from above (by woodwork). I need a refrigerator that can fit within. I needed your advice on a couple of points…
    1) Do refrigerators need any ventilation – if yes, what space do I need to plan to leave on the sides or above. Are their technologies out there that make this less of an issue?
    2) I was told that if I go for a single door refrigerator, there will be a need to defrost refrigerators every now and then…and that will result in water accumulation in a tray below the refrigerator which will be difficult to access because of the space situation. But it is very difficult to find a two door fridge that fits the space that I have described above…again, are their technologies that have overcome the need for defrosting?

I have 100% power backup at my apartment so power or quality of power is not an issue. This is a second fridge for us (family of 4) for the upper floor – will be used primarily to store pantry supplies. Please advise if you have any specific recommendations on model / brand as well. Thanks in advance…

    Regards,
    Ashish

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Agrawal,

It is important to leave six inches of space around the refrigerator. With 2 feet wide space, it will be very difficult to fit in a refrigerator. Refrigerator needs space so that it can release heat in the air. If it is packed, it will not function properly.

As for single door refrigerator with defrosting capabilities is concerned, there are few models from LG that can work:

      LG GL-205XEDA5 190 lts
      LG GL-225BSGA5 190 lts

both these have automatic defrosting capabilities and thus will not have problems with water accumulation.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Well on second thoughts, even 3 inch space on each side should work well. You should try the LG refrigerators I mentioned in my previous comment.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

You should go for LG single door refrigerator with power cut evercool technology. This technology helps keeping refrigerator cold for 9 hours during power cuts. You can look at these models:

      LG GL-205KAGE5
      LG GL-205XFGE5
      LG GL-205XADE5

These are all 190 lts refrigerators with BEE 5 star rating and power cut ever cool technology.

      • Vijay says:

        Thanks Abhishek,
Will these models be able to operate using the inverter I mentioned above.
Sometimes power cut is for days.
        Thanks again for the help.
        -Vijay

        • Abhishek Jain says:

          Hello Mr Vijay,

Refrigerators with regular compressor need a large startup current (also called inrush current). This leads to high VA capacity of inverter or generator. So 700 VA inverter may not be sufficient for regular compressor refrigerator. However inverter technology compressors do not need high inrush current and thus may work with 700 VA inverter. Inverter Technology compressors are not there in single door fridges. They are only available in double door. You can look at these 253-258 lts models with inverter technology compressor:

          SAMSUNG RT27HDRZESA/TL
          LG GL-D292RPJL
          LG GL-E292RPTL
          LG GL-M292RATL
          LG GL-M292RLTL
          LG GL-P292RPJL

Additionally if any LG model has power cut evercool technology then it will be much better.

Hi, i’ve a godrej 240L frost fridge. Currently it giving some trouble. It’s not cooling properly. Mechanic said that the compressor is ok, the problem might be in cooling coil or gas discharge and repairing cost may vary 2-3.5K. Should i go for repairing or buy a new one? Is repairing stands for another 2-3 years? Whats your suggestion!

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Das,

How old is your refrigerator? Also longevity of repair work will depend on how well it is done (depends on skills or the mechanic).

      • Subhodip Das says:

First thanks for your reply! my fridge is about 7 years old. My mechanic told that the problem was in condenser pipe. It has some leakage and was loosing pressure he change it with a new one. But the thing is, he fit it outside the body, previously it was inside. He told me that the pipe can’t be fitted inside as it was pasted in the inside panel by company…..i literally believed this on seeing the fridge is cooling again.

It will be better to go double door refrigerator for a family of 5. Single door refrigerators are 250 lts and less. Double door refrigerators are 250 lts and more capacity.

I am from Ahmadabad. i get confused little bit. can u help me out to select model. i had selected three model.1) LG GL-M522GSHM/2014 4 STAR 290 UNIT /YEAR 2) SMASUNG RT49H567ESL/2014 4STAR 299UNIY/YEAR AND 3) SAMSUNG RL4033UBASL bottom freezer.. which one better one. u have rank LG gl-M522 as 1st rank in ur energy rating chart. is it only related to bee energy rating or including other thing also like lg had green ion dor cooling technology. is it better than samsung in keeping vegetable more fresh ? can u give some idea on it. and i do not have idea regarding third model SAMSUNG RT 4033UBASL which had bottom freezer. have u any idea on this model?? is it available in market?? i had choose this from samsung web site. Energy rating of this model? have u any idea. is bottom freezer better than regular. or its just bottom freezer for better convince as we Indian using less freezer compartment. keeping more vegetable than frozen item. all r same price.

    Tejas.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Dr Tejas,

I would rather suggest that you go for regular double door model because the bottom freezer models are not rated on BEE star ratings. Here is the comparison of the two models from LG and Samsung:

      1) Both are inverter technology refrigerators and thus both are energy efficient.
      2) LG model has stabilizer free operation (as the operating voltage range is 100-290 V). Valuable if you have voltage fluctuations in your area.
      3) Samsung model has Coolpack Gel that can keep freezer cool up to 10 hours during powercut. Valuable if you have power cuts in your area.
      4) Samsung model has a cold water dispenser which can be useful but this feature is not really energy efficient as it can cause leakage of cold air. It depends on how useful this feature is for you.
      5) Both has some form of air filters and bad odour remover.
      6) Samsung lists some interesting features for storage convenience as well.

Truly speaking, you can go for anyone of them, technically both have very similar specs (leaving some features related to power cuts and voltage). If power quality is good in your area (and I assume it will be good considering you live in Ahmedabad), you can go for anyone of them.

As for the rankings on the website, they are purely based on data on power consumption from BEE. On top of it one has to apply brand value and choose one. And brand value is very subjective and my perception may not match with others.

    Hi Abhishek

First ofall kudos to you for running such an informative space!

My existing refrigerator (Godrej – dbl door – 15+ years old), has low on gas. As per the local mechanic, it can’t be refilled with gas, as compressor wont support now. The money will be wasted so a new should be purchased.

I am therefore, looking for a fridge:

    – More than 500 ltrs
    – Durability
    – Low on maintenace (power consumption + repairs)
    – Cold water (Must Have) + Ice crush (optional) outside the door panel
    – Freezer less space and refrigerator to have more space
    – back and bottom should be free from rat attacks (funny but reqd.)
    – COMPLETE Peace of mind :)

Now after reading your comments and feedbacks over the internet, almost all brands have complaints.

Three doors have inverter technology compressor. Freezer on bottom are more energy efficient but exact figures are not available. As per the comments, HITACHI models seems fine to me.

But keeping my above mentioned requirements, plese advise me the exact brand and model of the refrigertaor.

    Thanks,
    Rishi

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Rishi,

It is difficult to get something with all the requirements that you have mentioned. However you can look at these two models from Samsung:

Samsung RT56H667ESL and RT54H667ESL (both BEE 4 star rated models and have long compressor warranty)

By the way I must say that models having a col water tap or ice crush can potentially have air leakage which can cause its electricity consumption to increase.

Samsung has a convertible freezer model in which freezer space can be converted to regular refrigerator as per needs. But it is of lesser capacity.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Pooja,

3 door refrigerators have not been rated on BEE star rating, so there is no data available to compare. However if you want to go for 3 door refrigerator then I would suggest that you go for one with inverter technology compressor. Only Hitachi and Panasonic has such models. However these models in Hitachi and Panasonic do not have feature to keep the refrigerator cool during power cuts (such technology is available in LG, Samsung and Whirlpool two door and single door models).

    Abhishek,

Is it good idea to take AMC for the refrigerator, immediately after purchasing ?

BTW, I bought LG GL-D322RPJL two days back, instead of the 3 Door Whirlpool that I was supposed to.
The bottom container of FP 283D is not much fitted when I checked at one store, so I moved to LG model.

    Thanks,

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Regular maintenance is good for the good health of any machine. If maintained properly regularly, the probability of it working longer increases. As part of AMC, they will just come and do regular cleaning. If you understand how to do it yourself, then it may not be needed. You can read about some of it on this link: http://www.energymanagertraining.com/Journal/RefrigeratorMaintenanceTips.pdf …. please note that AMC and extended warranty are two different things. Product comes with a warranty on certain components where the company will replace them in case of failure during a certain period. Some companies sell extended warranty where they extended the duration of warranty on payment of some money. But AMC is purely for cleaning which should happen regularly. You can call the company people to do it, or you may do it yourself.

      • Ravi Kanth says:

Thanks Abhi. So, going with extended warranty would be good or our regular maintenance is OK ?
LG people says, it costs 5200 odd for 5 yrs.

        • Abhishek Jain says:

If you can manage regular maintenance by yourself then you do not need regular maintenance from LG, else it is better to go for it. Extended warranty is like life insurance :), you may or may not need it and going for it is a personal preference.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Sir,

I think a bottom freezer model will be better for you considering that you will have more usage of the refrigerator section than the freezer section and it will be easier to pick from top without bending much. You can look at these models from Panasonic:

      NR-BW465VN (450 lts)
      NR-BW415XS (415 lts)
      NR-BW465XS (450 lts)
      NR-BW415VN (415 lts)

The XS series has econavi sensors for additional energy savings. Hitachi also has some models like R-WB480PND2. You can check any of these.

    Hello,

I have few following doubts which want to clear.

    1. Which one is better Single Door or Double Door and why. As i feel coz of double door Gross volume is more but overall difference will be less. For example if i say 285 ltr single door and 321 ltr Double Door. What do u think?

    2. Which freezer is best top or bottom?

    3. Which Brand i should Buy as there are so many brands in the market. Well firstly i want the product which don’t require any service meaning that it should work fine. If require service then service should be good.

    4. What is the difference between GL-P322RPJL and GL-D322RPJZ.

    5. What are the mail feature i should look as there are lot of features with regard to brand and as well as model no.
    (i) LG have some features, Samsung have some features… like that every brand have different features.
(ii) LG models with the same capacity have different features for example Point no. 4. So there are the same thing in samsung and other brand as well. So what to look.

Please clear all my doubts. It will be great help.

    Thanks
    Rahul

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Rahul,

      Here is my response:

      1) Single Door models certainly have slightly more volume. However here is the difference: a) Single door models need manual defrosting and so ice accumulates around the freezer which has to be removed by switching off the refrigerator periodically. Frost free has automated defrosting. b) Most single door models are sub 250 lts and most frost free models are above 250 lts. However there are very few single door models above 250 lts and almost none above 300 lts. c) Before inverter technology came in, single door models were more energy efficient than double door, but now with inverter tech double door models are more energy efficient. d) There are no inverter technology models in single door.

      2) Theoretically bottom freezer model should be more energy efficient. So if you buy a model with inverter technology and bottom freezer, then it should be most energy efficient. However only Hitachi and Panasonic have bottom freezer models with inverter tech and they are 400 lts + models

      3) If you are looking at 250-350 lts models, then LG, Samsung and Whirlpool have better models. LG and Samsung have inverter tech models.

      4) GL-D322RPJZ is a BEE 5 star rated model whereas GL-P322RPJL is BEE 4 star rated. However GL-P322RPJL has power-cut evercool technology which can keep the refrigerator cool for 7 hours in powercuts and the freezer remains cool for 10 hours. GL-D322RPJZ has durachill which can keep only freezer cool for 10 hours in power cuts. Both models do not need stabilizer. And both have inverter technology compressor. So the power-cut evercool is the only differentiator.

      5) To decide on features you need to understand few things: a) Do you have frequent and long power cuts in your area? b) Do you need more space in freezer or you need more space in refrigerator c) If you need energy efficiency as well as stable cooling then you need to look for inverter tech compressor d) If you need freezer occasionally and refrigerator more, then you need bottom freezer model. e) Some refrigerators have separate sections where you can control temperature or humidity. If you have special need for such sections based on your food, then you can go for them.

      Hope this helps.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Samsung and Whirlpool both are among the leading brands in refrigerators. Especially if your requirement is in 250-350 lts refrigerator range. Digital Inverter Technology is the best technology available in market today in refrigerators. So you can certainly go for it. Whirlpool models do not have inverter technology but they are also quite energy efficient. But I would recommend going for digital inverter technology.

I am looking for a refrigerator to store more vegetables and fruits as well space to keep cooked food with bowls. thought of going for double door(not the side by side). looking for good storage space for vegetables. hence thought of going for between 500-600 ltrs. but few friends suggested to go with commercial storage refrigerators(which are generally used to store ice creams, etc in shops) than the consumer refrigerators. hence looking for suggestion between the commercial and consumer and than the specific models in that segments. Appreciate your help on this.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi,

Stores use freezers/deep freezers to store ice creams. Those are not ideal for storing vegetables. If you need 500-600 lts refrigerator, then you can look at Samsung RT56H6679SL or RT54H6679SL or any of the Hitachi models with inverter technology compressor. You can also look at Samsung models with convertible freezer (freezer that can be converted to regular refrigerator function in case you need to store more veggies): http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/home-appliances/refrigerator/frost-free/RT45H5809SL/TL

      • rudra says:

Thanks for your response, I really like your convertible Freezer, but can i get something more than 500+ capacity. I couldn’t find with my search on Samsung website. and is this the only company into this category of models .

        • Abhishek Jain says:

There are couple of models of similar type RT60KZRSL and RT55KZRSL but I am not sure if they are available in market. However if you total up the freezer and refrigerator volume in RT45H5809SL, it comes up to 430 lts. Even the regular refrigerator of 500+ lts capacity like RT56H6679SL have refrigerator volume of 409 lts and freezer volume of 146 lts. So the total refrigerator volume you get is less than what you can get in the convertible freezer model. I have only seen such models in Samsung.

          • rudra says:

Apart from the convertible technology, are there any special feature this series has, any drawbacks as well, lease share. what are the differences with this series of model RT54H6679SL

          • Abhishek Jain says:

            Hi Rudra,

Nothing special otherwise. Both are BEE 3 star rated series.

          • rudra says:

now the decision between the convertible fridge(Samusung RT45H5809SL) and bottom freezer(Panasonic/Hitachi). which technology is better ?, which is better between digital inverter and inverter( differences please). what are the technicle, features differences with respect to build quality, etc.

          • Abhishek Jain says:

Digital inverter and inverter are the same. Only LG’s linear inverter is slightly different. Bottom freezer is theoretically more energy efficient than top freezer. But the choice between convertible fridge and bottom freezer by Panasonic/Hitachi will depend on your needs.

  124. Ravi Kanth says:

    Hello Abhishek,

I was just confused selecting one between these two.
    1. Whirlpool FP 283D – 3 Doors
    2. Whirlpool NEO IC275 – 2 Doors

Is there any difference if BEE is not rated for 3 Door refrigerators ?

What would you suggest from the above ? or if you think something is better than the above, pls suggest.

    Thnx

    • Abhishek Jain says:

There is no BEE rating for 3 door refrigerators also there is no data available for 3 door models. But theoretically 3 door model should be more energy saving if the compressor is the same. And within the same brand, my guess is that most of the technology should be similar. So you can go for the 3 door model.

  125. Ashish Nahar says:

    HI Sir,

I went to purchase LG fridge model GL-D322RPJZ (5 star rating with 198 unit of consumption per year)however it is unavailable, instead I was offered to buy GL-D322RPJL (4 start rating with 247 units of consumption per year). Shop keeper said that 5 star rating fridge will cost you 3k more than this one and the units saved may not cover up the extra cost you pay for the 5 star rated model. What do you suggest, Sir?

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Nahar,

We have observed that refrigerators in real use consume at least 33% more than what has been put on the BEE label (because those numbers are in test conditions). So if we take that as reference, the difference between the two models is about 50×1.33= about 67 units a year. If each unit costs Rs 5, then it is Rs 335 per year (if rate of electricity is more then it will be more). So in this case it certainly does not create a great deal of difference if the price is 3 K more. But each BEE star rating is for a range of electricity consumption. At times the difference between a low end BEE 4 star rated model and a high end BEE 5 star rated model is quite high to justify the benefit. Also in some places the cost of electricity is also very high (mumbai is close to Rs 10-12 per unit). So you can go for the BEE 4 star rated model.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hello Mr Vkrant,

If the bottom freezer model that you are looking at has inverter technology compressor then I would suggest you to go for Panasonic. The LG model also has that. But bottom freezer technology in general is more efficient. Also inverter technology compressor gives more consistent cooling.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Harish,

Between the two models you have mentioned I would say that Whirlpool model may turn out slightly better because of the sixth sense technology. However in general the best technology available in refrigerators these days is Inverter Technology compressor. Which is mostly available in double door and side-by-side refrigerators. Double door refrigerators are rated on BEE star rating, but others are not, so there is no energy consumption data available for other type of refrigerators.

      Hi Fareed,

Both models have digital inverter compressor so from efficient performance perspective both are good. However LG GL-D322RPJL is BEE 4 star rated model where as the Samsung model is BEE 3 star. So LG model is more energy efficient. I would suggest to go for the LG model in this case.

Hello. I’m looking at buying a fridge about 450 litres. My current one is whirlpool. Do you recommend the Bosch or bottom freezer Panasonic. Any other suggestions. My height restriction is 69″. Thanks.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Himja,

Bottom freezer refrigerators are not rated on BEE rating, so we do not have much data to make a comparison. However only thing that I can suggest is: do look for inverter technology compressor in the refrigerator. It will not only save electricity, but will also keep food fresh for a longer duration. If you are looking for double door models then you can look at these:

Brand Name Model Number Gross Volume(Litres) Electricity consumption (unit per year) Star Rating Market Price
      LG GL-M472GLJM 420 282 4 43100
      LG GL-M472GSHM 420 282 4 47200
      LG GL-M472GPHM 420 282 4 48600
      SAMSUNG RT42HDAGESL 415 281 4 49490
      SAMSUNG RT42HAUDEGL 415 281 4 57300

    Hi Abhishek,
I have a need for 500+ L of refrigerator with bigger freezer. Please let me know which is the best refrigerator available as per my need.
    I was shown
    Samsung RS21HSTPN ,
    Samsung RSA2NQPN1,
    Samsung RS554NRUA,
    LG GC-B207QPQV,
    LG-B207GLQV
    in electronic store.

Out of LG and Samsung, i liked the inside body of Samsung as regards longer durability. Is it good to buy Samsung over LG or LG is still better. Which one is better models out of these.

    • Abhishek Jain says:

Amongst the 5 these are good:

      Samsung RS554NRUA1J
      LG GC-B207GPQV
      LG GC-B207GLQV

The LG model has digital linear inverter compressor which should technically be more efficient than regular digital inverter models. But the numbers are not available to compare. Both the brands are good and popular. If you like Samsung then you should go for the model that I have listed.

we are looking to buy a 2 door fridge with a capacity of about 200 litres in East Delhi. could you recommend some options for athe same keeping iun mind the bee ratings, price, after sales service and life of the fridge

    • Abhishek Jain says:

      Hi Vivek,

200 lts is a little small for a 2 door fridge. Although there are a few models of that size, but most good one start at around 230-250 lts. What is your budget like?

  140. basha says:

Iam planning to buy LG double door refrigerator. I am seen some of the models like

    LG GL-D322RPJL, LG GL-P292RPJL, GL-M292RATL, GL-B252VPGY, GL-M292RLTL, GL-B252VMGY, GL-M292RATL. My budget is 30,000.

Please let me know the best one from above based on usage, power consumption etc. If you have anything in your please suggest other than the above.

  141. Abhishek Jain says:

    Hi,

LG GL-D322RPJL, GL-P292RPJL, GL-M292RATL, GL-M292RLTL, GL-M292RATL are all BEE 4 star rated refrigerators (other two are BEE 2 star rated models). GL-D322RPJL is a 310 lts refrigerator so its power consumption is more. It may cost more than 30000. But all other models have same power consumption. These models are quite good. You can choose any one of them.

  142. Sree says:

I have ordered LG GL-D292RPJL but just came across the model GL-P292RPJL. How different are these 2?
There is a price difference of 2500 between these 2 but could not understand the difference. Former says GREEN ION DOOR COOLING while P292RPJL is 4-WAY COOLING. D292RPJL is DURACHILL while P292RPJL is Power Cut Evercool. Deodorizer in D292RPJL is Catechin while P292RPJL is Fresherizer with Silver Ions.
Should i cancel my order for D292RPJL and go for P292RPJL?

  143. Abhishek Jain says:

    Hi Sree,

The main difference that I can see is that D292RPJL is DURACHILL while P292RPJL is Power Cut Evercool. Durachill will be in the freezer and will keep the freezer cool for 10 hours. Where as P292RPJL is for both the refrigerator and the freezer sections during power cuts. If your area has regular power cuts and you store a lot of food in refrigerator section that is perishable, then P292RPJL will be better.

    Hi Abhishek,

I am looking for Refrigerator in range of 10 K to 12 K which has energy efficient, compressor gurantee, power cut cool feature & single door. Should I buy frost free or direct cool. what is the difference.

    Thanks in advance

  147. Abhishek Jain says:

    Hi Kalpesh,

    Few points:
    1) Frost Free are double door refrigerators that have automated defrosting (ice does not accumulate around the freezer). In single door direct cool refrigerators ice accumulates and thus you need to switch it off occasionally to clear the ice.
    2) Frost Free are bigger sized 250 lts+ refrigerators. Direct Cool are smaller than 300 lts.
    3) There are no efficient frost free models in your budget range.
    4) Power Cut Evercool is LG’s technology and available only in LG. However such models are again a bit more expensive.

Here are some efficient models in your budget:
    SAMSUNG RA20GCPR1/CTL
    LG GL-201KADG5
    LG GL-205KL5
    LG GL-205KLG5
    LG GL-205KMG5
    LG GL-205KM5
    SAMSUNG RA19ADES1/XTL
    SAMSUNG RR2015RSBRJ
    PANASONIC NR-A190S
    PANASONIC NR-A195S
